Was that Father Naus at the end?  Glad to see him still smiling, didn't know he was in chair but I suspect he has for awhile now.  His legs were really bothering him when I was in school....eons ago.

Father had a stroke in '04, and has been in a chair since. He's living with other Jesuits at St. Camillus in Tosa. They moved his office to the AMU so it would be easier for him to get around, and he still says 10 PM mass at Joan of Arc every Tuesday.

My daugthers watched the video with me at home last night.  I told them how Fr. Naus always said Mass in Schroeder Hall.  My wife & I both lived there when we first met so we went to Fr. Naus' Masses many times.  One of my great memories of MU.

Although, my girls had a hard time grasping that a priest could be a clown too.

Absolutely agree.  He taught me Oriental Philosophy, it was great.  Enjoyed him very much.

so speaking of Fr. Naus, I heard somewhere, don't remember where or when, that Chris Farley took Philosophy of Humor with him and failed and that's one of the reasons he dropped out of Marquette. Does anyone know if there is any validity to that?

Don't know if Farley took a Philosophy of Humor class but...I read the Farley biography by his brother.  In there it said that he was kicked out his last semester because he threw some fireworks into a house window (on 18th and Kilbourn) to "impress some girls".  It started the couch on fire.  So he was kicked out of school, and allowed to finish his classes at UW-Madison.  His degree was still from Marquette though.

The biography is very good. One of the better books I have read in awhile. Farley had so much potential, but couldn't over come the demons that dragged him down.

Farley dropped out of Marquette?  I thought he graduated....is this not true?

I read about the 10 p.m. Tuesday Mass in the Marquette Magazine and smiled b/c it combined two of my favorite things about my time there -- Father Naus and Joan of Arc Chapel.  I was an RA at Schroeder my junior year with Fr. Naus as chaplain and was a regular at Noon Mass on Sunday at J of A for 4 years.

A month or so ago Fr. Naus was sitting inside the doors of the Union and asked if he could borrow my cell to make a quick call.  Once he was done he thanked me and asked for my address.  I wasn't really sure why at the time but 2 days later a 1/4" thick envelope came to my apartment with a Christmas card amongst other things included.

A good 12 years ago, I was having lunch at some fast food pasta place in Tosa ..  I didn't know who he was, but somehow we got to talking about MU, and at some point, we exchanged names.  Sure enough, a month later, he'd hunted my address down and mailed me a letter.

I think I read in the biography that Farley did fail that class.  At the end of the semester, Naus gave everybody the Clown's Prayer.  He kept that with him all of the time, and used it as motivation.
