Not to kick a dead horse ....
« on: January 03, 2007, 09:44:44 AM »
but there was a string a while back saying MU had to pay an exit fee for leaving C-USA.  That was never correct, they paid a "penalty" in the fact that they left behind there accrued NCAA revenue credits.  They had the opportunity to keep that revenue if they afreed to play a certain number of C-USA teams over the next number of years.  Today's UC-Memphis game article discusses that to a degree.

....Thursday's game is the second in a four-year contract that calls for two games at UC and two at Memphis, assuming the games are on national television. The Bearcats have a similar arrangement with UAB, having agreed to play those two schools in exchange for keeping the NCAA Tournament revenue units they accrued while they played in C-USA....

From the Journal Sentinel Nov. 5, 2003:

Quote
The school also will have to pay an exit fee to leave Conference USA, its current home, and pay a fee to join the Big East. The exit fee is expected to be about $500,000; the entrance fee has not been determined.

There was an exit fee and also MU lost the NCAA monies they earned with the Conference.  I believe the exit fee is what would be waived if the schools agreed to play a certain number of games with othe C-USA teams.
