Can someone tell me where George Koonce who has the title of Senior Associate Athletic Director fits into the game plan of the Athletic Dept.   I am aware of his graduating from ECU and having played for the Packers.

MUBasketball

I heard George on the radio a week or two ago, I believe on the Gary & Cliff show on 1250.

He said he basically helps raise money for the department. Also talked about how he's pursuing his PhD currently at Marquette, and his goal is to become an athletics director.

After GK "left" the Pack, he was searching for a sports job and TC is always searching for a celeb...marriage made in heaven.

Wow, what a blantantly unfair statement to make about George Koonce.  After he left the Packers, he went back to East Carolina to get his master's degree in sports management.  He went back to work for Green Bay, then came to Marquette to get his PhD.  Yeah, he may be a celebrity, but he certainly seems like a motivated and qualified celebrity.

Calling Koonce a "celebrity" is a wee bit of a stretch.  Maybe among Packer fans, but after that....???

Somebody has to teach him basketball 101. I sat behind him at the BE tournament and he had no idea who any of the players were on the opposing teams, kept saying "that Hansbrough boy is good" on Notre Dame referring to Luke Harangody (not Ben).   Nonetheless he is a local celebrity... and always will be, much like all of the 85 bears in Chicago. Having him raise money for the university is a pretty good idea in Wisconsin.

I thought this was a Harlan connection?

Wasn't he the driving cat on Saturday Night Live?  Oh yeah, that was Toonce.
