Wow, reading the comments, there's much more to the story than ABC printed online:

I know Brenden personally and he is an amazing kid, but what you aren't getting is the fact that....yes he is tall, but thats not as far as it goes. He has a bleeding disorder, and his joints are huge and he can't bend them, and has arthritis in his joints. He has to have special shoes that are being made for him so that he can stand without having to hunch over because his ankles don't bend!!! There is no chance of him being able to play basketball...for example, he was the football MANAGER in 6th grade because he couldn't play. His heart is not healthy, and he has fatty tumors on his brain. He is also going in next week to have his spleen removed.

Hopefully the testosterone treatments help, and the kid can live out a life doing whatever he finds fulfilling.

Thanks for bringing my attention to the comments.  Those notes sure tell a different story -- healthwise -- than the article.  That is, the article ignores how tough this is for his system overall.  Far more than "enormous joints, fatty tumors, even extra teeth" to which the article limited itself.
