speaking of ND football.. they just renewed their tv contract through 2015.  Even more unlikely they'd consider joining ANY conference any time soon.

QuoteSOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- Notre Dame is renewing its television contract with NBC.

The university and NBC announced Thursday they have agreed to a five-year deal that runs through the 2015 season. The current contract was scheduled to expire in 2010.

This contract includes seven homes games per season. It allows for the first time an eighth off-site home game played at a neutral stadium.

NBC has broadcast Irish football since 1991.

Anyone that thinks ND is joining a football conference is on crack. THey have their own network and can schedule anyone they want simply because they are egotistical pricks, because most schools/fans want to play/beat Notre Dame, and because they can.

They'd be crazy to join. I can't stand them, but from a $$$ standpoint, you have to keep the alums happy and coffers full.

As for hoops, I don't see why they would not join an all-catholic league. I think it would be foolish of them not too.

I could see Xavier and/or Creighton join too along with ND, giving the league 12 teams potentially.

The 8th off-site game refers to the deal they coaxed out of UConn.  UConn gets "home games" against ND in Foxboro, MA and at the Meadowlands in NJ.
