PG Concerns
« on: May 06, 2008, 08:36:11 PM »
Anyone who has seen the scholarship table knows that the #1 spot is a concern after the '08-'09 season.  That said, outside of Johnnie Lacy, does anyone know of the prospects we are pursuing in the '09 and '10 classes to fill the void?  I am especially concerned if, as mentioned by others here, Lacy ends up reclassifying as a '10 recruit.  I understand that after Crean, it may take awhile for the dust to settle as far as recuits.  I just expected to hear SOMETHING before now, given the fact that Mo Ack seems to be our primary option after the three amigos leave, and there is literally no one to take his place.

MU just offered Michael Dixon a 4 star top 100 PG from Missouri in the last couple of days.  They have also recently started to go after Darius Morris a another 4 star PG from California, and are also looking at Justin Crosgile a 3 star PG from New Jersey who is just outside the top 100 and Eric Bledsoe a 3 star PG from Alabama who is working his way towards the top 100 after some strong AAU performances.  And they may get involved with Tommie Mason-Griffin another 4 star top 100 PG from Texas who was originally an LSU commit but is opening things up due to the coaching change.

The names are out there, but Buzz seems to play things much closer to the vest than Crean did, so we likely won't hear a lot about it before something happens.

Thanks for the info.  Turns out Mason-Griffin is from Houston.  I hope that pays dividends for us.

It must be true about Buzz playing his cards close to the vest - I expected a little more hoopla bu now too, but whatever works is fine with me!  Let's get some great recruits!

hey, if we get that first kid mentioned, as well as the last-
we'd have, for guard if they played at the same time, the Mason-(Griffen)-Dixon Line!

 ;)
it's early.

bma, do you have any idea about the level of interest these guys have in MU?

TV Director mentioned it is early but I'm not so sure about that.  It seems like the decision dates have slowly crept forward and you are seeing many of the top 100 committing before the summer AAU circuit between their junior and senior year.  Wisconsisn is done with 09 and 10 classes along with UNC being done with 09 and many others having committments from top 100 already.

I did a quick glance of scout top 100 and 35 have alredy committed.  I'm really nervous about the 09 class only 5 of the uncommitted had MU as a school of interest (3 of those were Wilson, Maymon and Lacy) and I know these lists are not the most accurate but our historical close rate is not very good either.  I'm hoping for the best with the new staff but think we could have a difficult recruiting year with the coaching change.

I think he was referring to the time (7:04am) as an excuse for his bad attempt at humor (Mason/Dixon line).

It is remarkable that those classes are locked so early, but they still are after all - at this moment - VERBAL commitments. And as we have seen within the past two months, verbal commitments AND LOIs are not set in stone.

My understanding is that Lacy is not a PG----but a 5' 9" shooting guard. When he's hot, he's hot----when he's cold, he's cold (streak shooter)!
