New 2009 Top 100 Scout Recruit Ratings

Below are the listed recruits who have MU under consideration. You can read about each. I cannot recall for some time, so many top 100 recruits even considering MU, or even mentioning MU.  Time for Buzz to close the deal  utilizing his expected recruiting skills or get a staff in place ASAP.  We shall see.

Eric Williams - moved up to #44

Jamail Wilson #9
Christian Watford #41
Terrence Shannon #65
Roger Franklin #71
Jeronne Maymon #72
Maurice Creek #76
Andrew Fitzgerald #82
Isiah Philmore #90
Johnnie Lacy #91
Ty Haws #96
Naji Hibbert # 100

FWIW, there's apparently a Rivals story floating out there from yesterday or the day before in which Erik Williams indicates he's likely to stick with Marquette because of Buzz.

Two days on the job and he's already got a top 50 recruit.  ;D

Yep, Buzz needs to make headway with this class of kids.  He doesn't need to get all Top 150 kids for this class (remember Wade wasn't a Top 150 kid out of high school).  But he needs to get enough talent to replace the 4 seniors to remain competitive.

Edit:  I think with the 4 seniors gone, it might be easier to get kids to commit - there will be TONS of playing time up for grabs (especially if we have 1-3 transfers this summer).

MuMark

FWIW in the Rivals story the guy writing it(Jerry Meyer) says that EW is likely to stick with MU.

It may be a small distinction but there was no quote from Erik so it could just be the guys opinion.

I doubt they are related.  Roy Hibbert was from Adelphi, Maryland and Naji I believe is from Baltimore City.

Get Jamil and Lacy, and I'll be a happy man.  Go get 'em Buzz, prove your recruiting chops.

Did Crean ever land a top 40 recruit?  What was James?  Guys want to come when other great high school players committ, I'd say this is great momentum to land some other top talent.  Without Nick Williams, Scott C, and the 4 seniors we could have a monster class for 2009.

I say bank the scholly if Nick or TT decide not to come, not much playing time next year anyway....unless of course a top player shows interest last minute.

James was #36.  Diener was the only other top #40 player at #40.

That's using the RSCI, if you just base it off of individual rankings then the list changes.  Nick Williams for example, is #35 according to ESPN but the rest of his rankings aren't that good so he's barely in the RSCI.  Jerel McNeal was #36 according to HoopScoop, but the rest of his rankings were lower, making him #57 overall.  Wes Matthews was #40 according to PrepStars, but he averaged out to #61.

Dameon Mason was top 40 (#37 and #40, respectively) according to Dave Telep and Bob Gibbons, but #71 in the RSCI. Crazy how one guy can rank a player 37th best and another won't even put him in the top 100. This is why recruiting is such an unscientific excercise.

Wow that other guy looks like a genius regarding Mason now.

augoman

good point, Pakuni, and isn't it interesting how much a man changes from 18 to 22 years of age?  Some develop and improve physically and mentally- some stay teenagers, some actually think they've matured in high school and deteriorate.  I've always wondered why more coaches don't go the JC route.  I know you only have 2 years w/ them, but you save a lot of 'growing pains'.

esotericmindguy

Wow, I didn't know matthews was that highly touted.  He's decent, but for being a top 40 player I'd have to say he's a dissapoinment.

Warrior1

I have seen Wilson play many times and seriously the kid is amazing,

Tom Crean was at Muskego high school (when I saw him play) and it seemed as though from what i herd that he really wanted to play there, hope Buzz can keep him

om my gosh here we go again with the legend of Wade not being a big time recruit the tales of a few years ago had Wade not being a top 100 recruit and now the tale is getting longer and he was not a top 150!!
Sorry to dispel the fable but Gibbons had Wade in his top 50 and  he was top 100 on many lists, yes it is tru he was not on some but he was top 50 on enogh of them to be very very highly regarded, the reson he was not recruited by the blue bloods is because they can get top 50 kids that have qualified.  my guess is in 5 years he will have been not top 300,  did not even play ball in HS, and maybe did not even wear shoes until his senior year in HS

Wade was on one, maybe two, top 50 lists, though I don't recall Gibbons' being one of them.
He was not an RSCI top 100 player. He started to become highly regarded during his senior season. At the time he committed to Marquette he was considered a good get, but at best the #2 player in that class, behind Scott Merritt.
