It was the press conference that so many alumni think will go down in history as the biggest travesty in sports.

Personally, it sucked and I was embarrassed.

But, the fact that you don't even know about speaks volumes about its actual importance. (it's just not that important).

(oh and just for the record... it was the decision to change the MU nickname to "Gold" rather than "golden eagles". It was short lived)

Part of this issue is that a commencement speaker who is on the Board kind of blindsided everyone by offering the University a lot of money if they would have returned to Warriors.  Over the course of time, the wounds from the dropping of that name had healed over, but this just started the entire thing all over.

I think the Board's problem was that they thought that everyone basically hated Golden Eagles...so they came up with this.  I don't think people hate Golden Eagles as much as they really, really wish that we went back to Warriors.

I personally voted for Hilltoppers at the end.  More unique.
