A little surprising, but it is nice to stay in there. I think we can expect similar results in the AP, maybe a spot or two higher since they had us higher than ESPN going in.

I'm catching up on posts a little late today, but I just got through the "will we still be ranked" thread and though people were crazy for saying "no".

Geeze, we lost to a top 25 team - it's not like we got killed by Notre Dame  ;)

(side note - I'm now scared of the ND game, just surprised that bama got slaughtered)

inexplicably, Dick Weiss has MU at #11 in his weekly ballot (AP, of course)

Have AP rankings been released?  If we held on in the espn, I would have to guess we're gonna also hang on in the AP poll.

I'm not surprised we're still in there.  A four point loss to #12 shouldn't knock you out of the top 25 unless you were 22-25 to begin with.  Doesn't matter much unless we start playing better.  I'm pretty sure we were ranked around this time of year in both 2003 and 2004, and we ended up in the NIT both years.  Important thing is for the team to play better.

Nice thing about still being in the rankings...

is that, baring another ridculous home upset, Marquette should stay ranked at least until the Jan 8th poll (we play at Providence and vs. Syracuse that week prior).

Some may say it is a popularity contest, but it is nice to be the rankings week after week... for recruiting, media, etc..

Once you get entrenched in the top 25 it's hard to drop out unless you really play yourself out of it by losing to mediocre teams.  A loss by 4 to UW doesn't hurt that much (being at home it does hurt but not that much.)  The ND St games does but if it stays as an aberration it will be forgotten.  Continued home losses will be a problem.
