Memphis is not putting every single one of their players in the NBA. They have had seniors and those seniors have not graduated.  He does not put an emphasis on academics which is something that MU values.  We are not UNC or Memphis or Tennessee.  Those schools, while having people leave early, also can't consistently graduate their 4 year players.

if not Freeway, then definitely Rick Smith (aka the jump-around guy) for coach.

He clearly loves MU/MU bball, runs a very successful company, always wears ties to the BC, and God knows he's the only middle-aged man who can bounce and spaz out as much as TC during games. only difference is that 100% of MU fans like Smith.

Calipari, like me, hates Tom Crean. There is no way he will follow in his footprints as Tommy boy goes onto bigger programs. Plus he rules Conf USA - why leave? He still gets his #1 seed and cusa title

I thought Crean and Cal were actually buddies.

I love how they give him credit for chalmers whose dad is also an assistant at Kansas
Chalmers was recruited and committed to Kansas before his father was hired as KU's director of basketball operations in June 2005.  His freshman year was 05-06.

That is an amazing coincidence

Larry Eustachy or Isiah Thomas?  :D

Other dark horse contenders I'd like to see considered...
Matt Painter (Purdue)
Danny Manning (KU Assistant)
Keno Davis (Drake)
Sean Sutton (unemployed)

Danny Manning has been an assistant (4th or 5th assistant) for one year  Might help with BIG s though

Hey, I'm just saying his dad didn't recruit him and the assistant who was given credit for it probably did.  I have no comment or opinion beyond that.

Thomas' Danish Delight

Where's he been, anyways?  We could definitely use Freeway's help with this.

No thank you. I think they're too removed (especially Brown) to be effective recruiters. Also, the college game is way different from the NBA game. These are kids, not employees.

Cal and Crean are actually pretty tight.

My darkhorse is Scott Drew at Baylor. Has absolutely resurrected that program -

Known as a high-energy guy, tireless work ethic - but a creative recruiter.

My question is - is he high-profile enough?

(FWIW - I also think Buzz and Sean Miller would be great options)

Agreed. I'd take Scott Drew in a heartbeat. I don't care if he isn't high profile enough. Getting anyone to go play at Baylor after their issues is amazing.

Vitale says Pete Gillen because he doesn't have a job.  Vitale refused to comment on any coaches who are currently employed.

Not necessarily on "my short list" but I heard John Groce mentioned on the radio yesterday.  He's an assistant, and I know thats not ideal, but he an associate head coach under Matta, and supposedly is a great recruiter.  His bio from ohio state shows that he has had some success. and he is young.  Just thought I would throw him out there since he is another name that I heard:

I am thowing my support behind Anthony Grant for new coach of MU hoops.  The more I read about him the more excited I get.  Then I start thinking about the style of ball they play at VCU and how you always see their scores in the 100's, now granted some of that has to do with the competition, but you aren't getting to 100 without some tempo.  Last time I checked some of those guys he recruited down at Florida turned out to be pretty damn good too.

CAINMUTINY

Travis Ford of Umass.... The guy is a flat out great bench coach and I love what he told his players during a time out versus Syracuse. The team was down 22 at one point and cut the lead to 11, and his message was "We've got em right where we want em"; You have to love a coach with such moxie.
