On the bright side, some of the potential replacements could be better at both than Crean.  But if it came down to one quality, which of these coaching qualities would be more important for you?  I select a better Xs and Os guy.  I think that this would translate into better player development.

Feel free to discuss how you think the names of potential candidates compare to Crean in these two important areas of NCAA coaching.

Recruiting.  Think Kevin O'Neill vs. Mike Deane.  O'Neill was a great recruiter, better than Crean.  We had very good classes year in and year out.  When he left Deane did a very good job (forgetting year 1) coaching those players, probably better than O'Neill would have done.  But the program regressed slowly but surely despite his solid coaching because the talent level dropped conistently.

It's a lot easier to win with good players and a poor coach than it is to win with poor players and a good coach.

I wonder what O'Neil or Deane could have done with the advantages that we now have: the Al, high profile conference, and recent sucess.  I realize that these won't recruit players for us but it sure makes it easier than what those coaches had.

You f*&%ing pieces of @#$&s have to think about this f*#$ing question?

Reminds me of a visit to one of K.O.'s practices when he was at Northwestern......As a high school coach, I try to get to some college practices every year.  In the hour and half of practice that day, Kevin's use of the F-bomb was quite remarkable.  He even went so far as to have his point guard's practice jersey have F....Y....written on it.
( can't remember the kid's name) After practice, Kevin and his top assistant at the time - Brian Gregory - came over to chat with me and the two other coaches I was with. I asked Kevin, what was with the F...Y... on the jersey and he said  "I say it to him all the time so it's like his name to me".....That kid transferred after that year and Kevin was off to the NBA soon after. Gregory was a class act.

Based on the poll, it looks like recruiter is going win.  This begs the question:

Who among the people being discussed for the job is a better recruiter?
