Men's Basketball Travel Party Arrives In Anaheim Tuesday

Anaheim - The Marquette University men's basketball travel party arrived safely in Anaheim, Calif., early Tuesday evening, arriving at the team headquarters for the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

The No. 6 seed Golden Eagles will face No. 11 seed Kentucky at 1 p.m. CT Thursday afternoon at the Honda Center.

The travel party departed early Tuesday afternoon from Milwaukee courtesy of a Midwest Airlines charter flight and arrived in Long Beach, Calif., shortly after 5 p.m. local time. Following arrival, the team went through a quick walk through before dinner.

Wednesday's activities include a practice session at a local high school, press conferences at the Honda Center and a brief open workout at the arena as well.

Marquette is making its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth under ninth-year head coach Tom Crean. In the previous 16 years before Crean's arrival, the program made just four NCAA's.

Smart for them to fly into Long Beach.  It's actually a municipal airport but services JetBlue.  It's old school where you walk on the tarmac.  Hassle free, love that airport....avoids any of the media and the huge crowds.

With charter flights though you can usually bring the bus right up to the plane on the tarmac, get screened and on the plane, then have a bus waiting for you on the tarmac at the next location.  Thus avoiding crowds and media regardless of airport.

You're right Chicos, it's a great alternative to LAX and is generally hassle free and, therefore, I fly out of LB whenever possible.  However, there are only 40 or so commercial flights per day, and that counts take-offs and landings.  Needless to say, there are not a lot of direct flights to major cities, but it is a great alternative if you are flying from LB directly to Chicago, Boston, or NY, or if your destination somewhere on the West Coast.

Another problem is that most, if not all of the take-offs are grouped together in the a.m. to limit the time that the noise will bother the airport's neighbors.  Therefore, you have a lot of folks trying to get through security at the same time from about 6:00am. to 9:00 a.m.  Sometimes it's worse that LAX.

However, in general LB is much better than other airports.  Not only that, but parking is much cheaper, which helps if your traveling for pleasure, not business.

Happy Flying!!

It's about 10 minutes from my house which is why I love it.  Then again, right outside my office window is LAX so I've got that luxury as well.  JetBlue is expanding flights in April in LB, plus adding service to LAX so LB might become a touch busier with more flight variability.  I'm usually flying to Chicago or New York so LB works out pretty well for me.
