fit to lose at home on close calls. Those refs would not have left before he got tossed put. No way you let that happen at home.

That said, we make our free throws and this game was ours in regulation.

CTWarrior

It's OK, you can blame the refs.  Every close call down the stretch went against us.  There were plenty of mistakes we made (like making a few more layups or free throws) but if any one of a number of 50/50 calls were not made or went our way, we would have won.  You expect to get a few of those at home.

Side note it was Al's Night tonight as well.  They put up an old high school football photo of Al McGuire playing Joe Paterno back in the day in Brooklyn.

I agree wholeheartedly.  How  'bout a little love from the zebras - or at least equal treatment - I do think they got more calls than us.  I remember one "bunny" in the lane that they took and it came up short, we grab the rebound and THEN the whistle blows and they make the foul call.  I really hate when they do that - it looks like they've decided "okay, if this goes in, it's a no call, but if he misses, I'll blow the whistle."  Call it when it happens.  Anyone else remember that play?

leglegle

I would have appreciated just ONE three second call on Hibbert, he was camped in the lane.

On a side note junior just like senior couldn't finish, thanks Pat >:(

Did the officiating crew make a decision at half to hose Marquette?  When I see officiating like that I often wonder why bother watching?  ?-(

And yes, I'll blame the officials for the loss.  When both teams are playing a close game, a few bad calls can decide the game.

🏀

The refs dictated the pace of the game. We went up 10, they quickly got the lead down to 2-3 points on two occasions. One ref had his calls reversed twice by the other refs. That was insane, and he was the one calling the majority of fouls, no matter how far away from the play.

ChicosBailBonds

Said MU got two very controversial calls against them in the final 11 seconds and then again in overtime...said Villanova knows how we feel.

How many crappy wins does GTown have now? 4?

UConn-- Win on Hibbert's 3
WVU-- Uncalled Goaltend
Nova--Phantom Foul
Us--Take your freaking pick

These guys are some different officiating crews and a piece of blind luck away from 7th place right now.

I don't get people including Uconn game, we were tied when hibbert hit that 3. He hits that shot all the time in practice. And he swished it; it wasn't a fluke. If he had missed, we go to overtime. You can't say we deserved to lose that game. Same thing with villinova. It goes to overtime.

You did not get jobbed. Nova and WV can complain ( i think it was a block not a goaltend, but they at least have an argument). You guys don't have a leg to stand on.

augoman

IDK, Hoya, if the refs had called the game w/ an evenhand, you'd have been several players short by 5 min in game..., outcome would have been very different.  Certainly, the phantom calls on Barro-sending you to the line(where, unlike MU, you were on) and taking him out of the game, made a difference.  But, like it or not, we were in control of our own destiny, and failed to make 11 free throws in regulation.  The refs, bad as they were, should have been an insignificance.  We had you grabbing your ankles on national television, but couldn't finish.

Norm

Oh Please hoya,

Not even looking at the MU game, Georgetown was handed the game against Villanova. A foul 80 feet from the basket with 0.8 seconds left in OT with the GU player falling out of bounds? Georgetown has benefited from refs calls more than any team in America this season.

TVDirector

watched the game with my Pop in FLA... and his friend, Gene (can't remember his last name).
Gene was a college ref until 94 or so.... did a bunch o' MU games.

couldn't help but press him on the officiating of the game-

he said it's really tough to make a judgment on refing watching the game on the tube...
did concede, however, that there were several calls he'd 'have to see again'.
mentioned that refs are human, and the really good teams that 'get the calls' and Georgetown has been the beneficiary of a good deal of that lately.
he also doesn't like the verrrry late calls from refs that change the outlook, but...

whattya gonna do.

Gene said it, tho... MU makes their shots, then reffing, good or bad, doesn't come into play at all.

oh well.

we missed way to many free throws

Actually our free throw shooting in the second half was very good and if you look at the percentages in the game compared to the season we should have made 3-4 more than we did which would have won us the game but so would a lot of other plays in the game.  Looking at FT percentages, Dom should have hit 2 more and McNeal 1 but Matthews and Burke did better than usual.  I didn't realize that Burke and Mbakwe our 2 worst free throw shooters had 25% of the attempts.

I won't blame officiating but I will say that just about everything seemed to go GT's way.  Twice we played incredible defense and they heave deep 3 pointers that had no business going in.

Ok to be fair, UConn and Nova weren't necessarily losses if not for the final play, but very well could have been.
And yes, UConn was your doing, not the refs'. My point remains, as talked about on another thread, you are very very close to having a much different season.

I hate to say it, but DJ had no business being near that guy with his hands.  Body would have been fine

An obvious travelling call against Georgetown was missed in the UConn game which would have made the late 3 pointer moot.  Living here iwth UConn fans they were apoplectic when it happened.  Hibbert did bury that three so I would not call it luck like the banked OT 3 against us.
