Thought I'd share this for anyone who's not already familiar with the site. Linked is an updated breakdown of estimated roster costs and expenditures per league for the '25-26 season, along with other informative analyses.

As many probably expected, the Big East's ability to pay players proportionally more via revenue sharing has allowed it to remain somewhat competitive with the football-driven schools. Though this will inevitably and unfortunately change as the $20.5 million rev share cap increases in the future.

If the revenue cap raises for one, it raises for all.  Specific to MU, how much school dinero are the powers that be willing to contribute to the athletes.   Definitely not that much.  And, related, how much is Broeker et al able to raise from donors?

Pretty sure I read a quote from an anonymous Big 1? coach that $12m is the minimum to be competitive in basketball for 26-27.

Pitino also recently threw out $10-12 million as the number to be competitive in the BE.

This is nonsense information. Having 'contracts' with guaranteed third party payments is inherently nonsense, yes? In addition, the tables don't reconcile - this is bizarro world nonsense.

I believe the revenue sharing is generally subject to a 4% increase in years 2 and 3, then could be revisited/adjusted more.

That said, direct payments can be about $21.3M this next year.

Hilarious. I read a little more and even the guy writing this nonsense b.s. on the stupid website admits the numbers are f**ked and he doesn't know right from left:

"The latest update from the College Sports Commission reports only $ 166 million of cleared deals as of March 1, 2026 – this is a fraction of the estimated $ 500 million third-party NIL market just for basketball alone. Some of the difference can be attributable to the NIL Collective "money dump" prior to the July 1 start of CSC enforcement, but this still leaves a boatload of missing money. Admittedly, I'm not the accountant with the sharpest pencil around, but unless there is a massive amount of pending deals in the NIL Go system, even I can see that these numbers don't seem to add up. "

Check. Your. Sources.

Lots of people speak with fake-authority on the numbers involved, but so far there's not one I believe. Most of it outlandish nonsense.

Just edited the post to clarify what I meant, as any increases to ceiling on revenue sharing limit is not a good thing for the Big East. What I'm saying is the gap will widen.

The only schools that are actually limited by the $20.5 mil revenue sharing cap are the P4 schools, due to how much they make from football. The SEC, for example, averages a revenue of $133 mil. Marquette's basketball revenue is about $23 million. When you account for the operating expenses of both, the amount Marquette has left over to spend on players falls far below the $20.5 mil ceiling, while an SEC will enough to use all $20.5 mil. So by raising the cap, it results in no change for us, but allows football schools to gradually pay more collegiate dollars to players.

This can be fixed. We just need a $100M donation from a donor who says, 'use this to fund men's bball the next several years' and we're good.

Yeah I read it as a "doing the best I can with the resources provided" kind of estimate rather than exactly accurate NIL pinpoints (which we'll never get), so it goes without saying the numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. The general idea of what revenue sharing is doing for each conference was the point of sharing the link.

Nevertheless, your relentless dedication to fact-checking is appreciated as always, Jay. 🫡

If the "M" stands for Money, I'm good for that. Where do I send my 100 bucks?

Haven't bought any yet.   Do you want a 20 year old under armour MU quarter zip with a goofy spider web design under each armpit?

As long as you launder it before sending it, sure.
