Cleveland is a junior

Cleveland on Marquette: "My relationship with the staff is awesome. I feel like I talk to Shaka Smart every day. I am always talking to him. He likes my game, and whenever we both have games, he tells me, 'Let's both get a win today.' Usually they lose, but I win, so maybe I can help him get his squad up to where it's 'posed to be."

I hate when MU goes up against Arkansas, Shaka is about relationships, Calapari has Walton money to recruit.

If you define "wins" as not actually winning a basketball game, they win a lot!
"I am one of those who think the best friend of a nation is he who most faithfully rebukes her for her sins—and he her worst enemy, who, under the specious and popular garb of patriotism, seeks to excuse, palliate, and defend them" - Frederick Douglass

Yep. They offer better growth (in bank accounts) than us.

Just put "Financial" in front of every RGV word, and that's a strategy too $$$

That's why the #1 recruit from Connecticut (from my HS alma mater) is headed there next year.  His parents were digging the private plane flights.  UConn & Providence were in his final three.

What a great quote. I'm going to be devastated now if we don't land him.

What6 could be more telling than "Usually they lose.."?
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

For the record, I thought Sheek Pearson wouldn't commit to Marquette because he witnessed us lose in embarrassing fashion at home against Xavier last year, and things didn't get better from there. He later attributed the team's post-loss dynamic as a significant reason why he chose MU. Point being, some recruits are more maturely motivated and not dissuaded by teams that lose plenty.

That said, reading the article more, I realize Cleveland is probably gonna end up at Gonzaga, Michigan, or Oklahoma for other reasons. But the quote is great because it shows spirit on his part. Not something you'd hear many other kids say.

Yeah I noticed that after. Damn.

Shaka better figure out to bring at least 2 transfers who could start next year. Has 2 guards who can start and maybe Egbuono can start as well.  Then he can grow the bench with returnees.

There's Sheek, but I find it REALLY hard to see how Shaka doesn't bring in a veteran/impact big man. They don't grow on trees, but next years team will really need help at the 4/5

Shaka would be well-served to run off bums like Hamilton, Norman, Owens, Jones and bring in actual high major players for next season. But the guy I listened to in the postgame doesn't sound logical enough to do something so obvious. So good luck cashing in on those needs, DoctorV.

He can't sound any different in a post game press conference.

He's not here to appease me or you.

He's the head guy of a program that could be on the verge of a disastrous season but he's got to do his best to coach what he's got to respectability.

He's trying to win games, and to improve the mentals of those kids in that locker room, and that's all he can do in the moment.

In the presser he said he saw something in Adrien's face that made him play him, and he also saw the opposite in Zaides and he rightfully benched him because he was out of it today.
He did the same with Tre, Damarius, etc.
He's gotta play someone at the 5 and it seems pretty clear that Clark isn't extremely usable just yet, as bad as Caedin has been.

At the end of the day he completely mis-judged the talent and ability many of the guys had, and that's completely on him.

He can't just abandon ship and throw the team under the bus 10 games in, he's got a team to coach and he will do the best he can.
As the Greek proverb says, he made his bed and now it's time for him to sleep in it.

I'd think much worse of him if he didn't try to stay the course the entire season.
What he does when it's over is a whole other story

Look at the social accounts showing the final score: RELATIONSHIPS. GROWTH. VICTORY. sprawled there at the very bottom. It's a unnatural carnal knowledgeing disease in this program and enabled by our school pres and incompetent buffoon of an AD.
