Uncle Rico

Prolific writer who often wrote about college hoops.

"A Season on the Brink" is his most known work about the sport, which chronicled the worst season at that point of Bobby Knight's time at Indiana.

I preferred his "A March to Madness" which chronicled the '96-'97 ACC season.  A great, breezy read that captured the realities of the league at its time and the many personalities that coached in it.

Other college hoops books include "The Last Amateurs" about the '99-'00 Patriot League, "Forevers Team" about the Duke teams of the late 70's, "A Season Inside", a follow up to "A Season on the Brink", "The Legends Club" about Dean Smith and Coach K, "Last Dance" about the 2005 Final 4 and "The Back Roads to March" an all encompassing book about legends of all size and background that make March Madness.

'A Good Walk Spoiled' was my favorite.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

For all you 670 The Score listeners who remembers the CBS Sports Minute soundbyte "Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice... I'm John Feinstein."

One of the greats. A Season on the Brink is still must reading for any college basketball fan. And Rico is right about "A March to Madness" and "The Last Amateurs" - two great reads.

Feinstein wasn't even 70 yet. Sad.
