Kyle Neptune enters year three having missed the NCAA Tournament twice after Jay Wright had gone to nine straight with two National Championships and a Final Four in the previous 7 seasons. Eric Dixon returns, but is surrounded by a mix of newcomers and youngsters. In what might be a bid or bust season for Neptune, we dig into the Wildcats.

Villanova Preview

Shooter McGavin

I, like you, think Neptune is a better coach than the results have shown the last couple years.  But Villanova doesn't have time to wait.  Programs can quickly go from elite to average with the wrong coach.  This year goes poorly and they will be forced to make a move.

He stinks, and no one will convince me otherwise.

Couldn't believe my eyes when I watched that game where Marquette was coming off like 6 consecutive brutal 3P shooting games and literally everyone was broke, so team after team was just packing it in, and Neptune rolls out with high pressure 3P line defense giving MU easy bucket after easy bucket at the hoop.

I love Dixon, but he should start the season suspended. Will be interesting to see what, if anything, transpires on that front over the next few weeks.

No he shouldn't. What a ridiculous rule that is.

I'm sorry, did you forget who you're talking to?

Yeah, that was mind-boggling. Maybe it was just my imagination, but were our guys smirking as they drove to the basket?

Going to be a rough patch here with National Letter of Intent being scrapped.  Choose the school, not the coach and all

I have yet to meet a Nova grad or fan who wants to see Neptune continue as their coach and your info above is a perfect example of that. He wasn't ready for that job and isn't showing the ability to keep Nova at or even near the levels established by Wright. The sooner they cut bait the better.

Neptune just came into a murderers' row too early in his career. If it stays at Fordham for 5-6 years, then cuts his teeth at a second rate high major, then maybe he's ready for that job. I don't think it's coincidence that he is 0-11 against Hurley, Shaka, and Pitino. Directly following Jay? That was always going up be a tough ask.
