Makes me worry more about the Fox contract than the games themselves.

 Not a great development.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Big East should dump the Big Ten and do a series with the ACC.  They’re an ESPN partner and if this development is related to Fox, Kolek ‘em.

Some of the matchups in the Gavitt Games flat out sucked anyway.

Pretty concerning.  Hopefully not another step for the football conferences to ice out the BEAST.

How many of the games do an interstate rival game anyways? I know Creighton and Nebraska and us and GTown. Does the Butler IU/PU game still happen? GTown vs Maryland?

If they were really that close, it sounds like an agreement can still be reached.

Val built up a ton of credibility with me with what she pulled off to save the Big East. I trust her to navigate this Gavitt Games + network renegotiation + conference realignment stuff.

Edit: She's 65, time to start thinking about her successor. Big shoes to fill.

Big 10 is dragging their feet here and I understand why.  The schools in the B10 do not know how many conference games they are playing yet with the addition of 4 schools next year. Why add another hard out of conference game if you are going to play 22 con games?  For the new additions to the B10, specifically UCLA and Oregon, they have expressed interest in keeping rivalry games alive (UCLA vs Arizona and Oregon vs Oregon State).  Adding a Gavitt game would make these schedules insanely strong, but would mean the season long schedule would even be more brutal schedule and travel wise.

We don't need the Gavitt Games. Going forward, if we have a Non-conference schedule vs. Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and one other P6 team (plus whatever tournaments we play in November), that's good enough. SOS will be just fine.

ACC would make the most sense for a future interconference challenge.

100% agree. I have zero doubt that Shaka will schedule tough. The only thing about the ACC is they are ESPN, BE is Fox. There would have to be buy in from both networks assuming the BE renews the Fox contract. Every fan would love the ACC BE Gavitt games, and they would make for amazing TV due to Pitt, Syracuse, BC etc. being old BE teams.

The more I think about it, I don't think this changes the BE outlook on the contract negotiations as the BE will find another conference to have games with. If the ACC, I bet you there would be higher viewership than the B12 due to the teams.

I’d drop the Big # in a heartbeat and go after the ACC or Big 12 if it doesn’t jeopardize our relationship with Fox. I’d much rather play North Carolina or Duke than Purdue or  Indiana. Especially if the Big # is going to insist on bullcrap matchups like Butler @ Michigan State.

OK this is a really good explanation. Thanks.

ACC will insist on Butler vs Duke and UCONN vs.Lville.
