Thankfully Cardinal Stritch is no longer a threat.

Notably he didn't sign the extension until after they closed. I'm sure the lure of a shorter commute was part of his thought process
"I am one of those who think the best friend of a nation is he who most faithfully rebukes her for her sins—and he her worst enemy, who, under the specious and popular garb of patriotism, seeks to excuse, palliate, and defend them" - Frederick Douglass

You just couldn't leave it alone, could you? I bet you got beat up a lot during recess when you were a kid.  ;D

Agree.

The fact that the old home is being razed and a new one is being built on the lot is a much greater commitment in terms of time and energy related to the decisions involved (it's more than just a big $ decision) vs. simply buying another existing lakefront home. Those here who has had a home built know what I am talking about from their firsthand experience. To me, it is evidence that Shaka is thinking in terms of a nice, long stay. It certainly would not preclude a move to another school some year in the future, but it sure seems that he's planning to stay a long time.

Didn't Buzz custom build his Quon McMansion, replete with a MU-themed Safe Room?

Different deal. Buzz tweaked new construction. Shaka is tearin' down a crib he paid in excess of $3.3 mil for and rebuildin' on da same site. Also, probably won't be residin' in a pup tent for 2 years either. But, the land can't be replicated elsewhere. Location, location, location, aina?
BTW, Shaka sold his Austin bungalow for in excess of $6 mil, hey?

Right.  Shaka could sell his new house for a lot more than he would've been able to sell this house.  I think Shaka's here for the long term.  I don't think this because he's building a new house where his current house is.

Nice that Shaka seems committed to a long Marquette stay, as well as being committed to what he believes are important social causes.

We all know how hard it would be to sell a new home on lakefront property in Fox Point...  :P

Indeed .. razing a $3.4m house to build a new one .. that's commitment.

For lookie loos, this is about 10 houses south of Dr. Lovell.

Beleive Dr. Lovell may have a signicant housing allowance in exchange for his house being the summer alternative to the 5th Floor of the AMU.

interesting read from Ben Steele
When Marquette's Shaka Smart needs advice, he often calls basketball legend George Raveling
small excerpt:Raveling and Smart stayed in touch and soon Smart learned about the incredible experiences of Raveling's life.
Most famously, on Aug. 28, 1963, Raveling attended the March on Washington. As a 6-foot-4 former Villanova player who was then an assistant at his alma mater, Raveling and a friend were asked to help out with security. That was how Raveling ended up being just a few feet away from King as he delivered his "I Have A Dream" speech. Raveling asked for King's typewritten copy and he still has it.
