While you are waiting for this Friday's game, I thought I'd share this rare find with you: the full television broadcast of the 1967 NIT Championship. The 'Quette unfortunately lost this game 71 - 56 to a Southern Illinois team that included the great Walt "Clyde" Frazier.

However, this video gives those who are interested the opportunity to watch and learn about one of Coach Al's great teams that are rarely mentioned... the 1966-67 Warriors. A team that included George Thompson, Bob Wolf, Jim Burke, and one of my personal favorites Pat Smith.

Don't show this one to either of my children. I'd never live it down LOL.

I saw that game live years and years ago as a 10 year old. Walt Frazier was someone special.

I can still remember watching this game...seemed like waiting for Christmas...just  remember being so sad after we lost.  I was 13.

Was there as an 7th grader
Dad was on Athletic Board (which obviously no longer exists) so we got to go to practice the day between semis and finals
Muhammad Ali (then Cassius Clay) shows up at practice as he was fighting at MSG that night (or in the next few days???)
He challenges Burke to a game of 1/1 and Jackie beats him 5/0
When Ali then suggests they go a few rounds Jackie quickly declined!!

That's a great story and one that Marquette should embrace publicly as part of its incredible basketball lore! Thank you for sharing that!!!

Rocket:
Jerry West =Zeke from Cabin Creek

Walt Frazier got his Clyde nickname from his hat which Resembled the hat Clyde wore in the Movie Bonnie and Clyde , which came out during Frazier rookie NBA season

Over the years Frazier really stepped up that Flashy gangster style of dressing as part of his marketing . He actually wrote about about his style on and off the court .

Included  in the Frazier Book was a chapter on his legendary hand quickness for steals . As part of that chapter Clyde gave advice on how to kill flies . The fly catching technique, which was a sideways motion of sorts ,actually worked and I still use it to this day .

I don't recall ever hearing Frazier associated with that nickname. That's always been Drexler in my mind. Did Frazier use it too?

That's the first I remember hearing it. But certainly Drexler made it more prominent.  Similarly, Frazier's backcourt mate was Earl "The Pearl" Monroe and Dwayne Washington took over that moniker. Doc Rivers/Doctor J.
