I've seen some questions here and on Twitter about Marquette's current seed position, with Seton Hall frequently used as a comparison. Warning, this gets a bit nerdy, but I explain why SHU is where they are on the S-Curve compared to Marquette and how seeding in general seems to line up when the bracket is announced. I also look at what Marquette needs to do to improve on my prediction while also noting where some people better than me at this have Marquette in case you want a more optimistic take. Oh...and a new S-Curve.

Will update tomorrow, but Wake Forest is now out of the field and Rutgers is headed to Dayton. Not sure anyone on the inside could afford a bad loss worse than Wake.

One of my first posts on here, so not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but brewcity77, do you mention anywhere what Marquette would need to do to move up a line or two, say to a 7 or a 6.  Bracketguy Dave mentioned over the weekend in response to a question posed about Marquette that a strong showing in the BET, Marquette could get as high as a 6. Is that wishful thinking or a realistic possibility?

From the article in the opening post: " But if Marquette were to notch a Q2 win over Creighton and Q1 win in the semifinal, suddenly they have a 12-11 Q1+2 record and an 8-8 Road/Neutral record, which combined with the 4 (possibly 5) Q1A wins they would have at that point could move them up to a 7-seed. I will also be clear that I don't think 1-1 will do anything for them. It would be a case of moving ahead an inch, then back an inch. I believe Marquette has to be playing Saturday night to see their seed improve."

Can anyone explain why Iowa is getting so much media love for the NCAA Tournament? ESPN has them as a #6 Seed, and CBS has them as a #7. They played a very weak non-conference schedule (one of the worst in the country), and they were 2-6 vs. Quad I competition this season. Also, they were only 3-7 against the other Big Ten teams currently projected to be in the NCAA Tournament, and they only played Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Rutgers once during conference play.

What have they earned? Do you just get a good seed in the tournament if you're in the Big Ten and you end up with a good record despite who you've played?

Should be an #8 or higher in my opinion. Thoughts?

Yes, but barely. Comparing them to Wake, Florida, and Indiana, Xavier's resume is clearly better. I think any bid thief knocks them out, but right now I'd have them making the short drive to Dayton.

SOS plays in more on the bubble. Iowa's strength is their quality metric average of 14.3, largely because 19 of their 22 wins are by double digits (including 6 of 8 in Q1+2) while 7/9 losses are by single digits. I had them lower until they started adding wins over the field. 6-7 feels right.

Not really. Q1+Q2 doesn't change, and 4 Q1 wins stands out against most of the 7-10 candidates. Might hurt us if we're looking at a 6, but I think that's unlikely.
