Hard to be a good end of game coach when your team missed 3 bunnies and committed two horrid turnovers to finish the game.  This is on the players, not Shaka.

A lot of people don't think McDermott is a very good coach. He's outthought and outmaneuvered Shaka twice.

Shaka is exposing himself as a pretty poor end-of-game coach. Not with respect to the strategy today (as opposed to 1/1) but as to personnel.

Shaka was out coached ...

Why the F was Kolek not in the game?
That one I think even Wojo could have figured out.   Grrrrrr

No given Moresell had been sloppy all game the fact that he was bringing it up was an issue.

1. Sitting your best PG for that long when Elliott was giving you nothing was a mistake.

2.  The play call with five seconds left was bad.  Why was Oso even in the game there?

100%.  Shaka has demonstrated sawdust for brains both x's vs Creighton, at Butler, at Providence late. Should have at least won 3 of those.

Frustrating but these are teaching moments, I'd rather have these losses in Feb and hopefully make the adjustments in the next few weeks. Some might have forgotten, but this is a young team and has been all season.

The so called experienced players made all the late mistakes!  Lewis, Morsell and Elliott each gave the ball away at crucial times in the waning moments of the game.  Where are the teaching moments exactly?

Really? A redshirt freshman and two 4 year players that have never averaged more than 10 pts per game and now they're going to be Michael Jordan with the game on the line all of the sudden?

MuggsyB

Morsell, Lewis, Kolek had 13 turns.  The ones down the stretch by DM and JL were beyond disastrous.

But what exactly are they learning with these mistakes? It's February 20. Not November.

Silly question, I am a keyboard warrior and not Shaka Smart, but that's why they call it coaching. In general and other phases of life, people learn from their mistakes.

My point was I'd rather they do it now and learn from it instead of these types of meltdowns in New York at the BE tournament or even worse suffering a loss like this in the NCAA tournament.

In my opinion, the team has locked up a spot in the dance and that's already overachieving my expectations but I hope they can use these frustrations as fuel to refine a better product and showing come March.

This team has struggled to execute in tight games down the stretch.  We got that semi-prayer shot by JLew in Philly but if you look at our close games we've had a number of meltdowns and have not executed when we've had plenty of chances.  My take is too often our best players go one on one during these possessions and we get low percentage shots or kick the ball away when we overdribble.

you mean a sophomore who played 21 games last season, has started every game this season and has played 48 games in his career?

morsell is not young. Elliott, not young. 2K, not young. Shaka has been around but makes some odd coaching decisions. Not sure 'inexperience' is an excuse for at least 3 losses.

I know he's really talented and the presumptive leader of the team but he's still young and will still need to continue to grow

Tough loss with lots of questions...... effort and sloppiness with ball etc.

This, same mistake 1st half. The PG under pressure is Kolek,  but Morsell is anointed PG on the fly.

I feel like MU is solidly in the tourney, but then I thought that entering February pretty much every Wojo year.  This team is struggling to finish games.  Like many people, I kept wondering why Kolek wasn't on the floor at the end.  He's our best point guard and our best playmaker.

Creighton Scored on this possession. And Greg did not step on the court from the tv replay on his inbounds. Frustrating and disappointing.

Greg stepped on the line though. Plus, you could probably argue he traveled by shuffling his feet.
