Today, Strong's vision now spans far beyond the court. "My dream is for Marquette to be one of the great universities in the world," he says. "Basketball is one wonderful vehicle for that to happen. I consider it a great privilege to be involved with Marquette."

Looking ahead, he is encouraged by President Lovell's leadership and the university's drive to rise to new heights. "Mike Lovell is loyal, honest and authentic," Strong says. "The most important thing about Mike Lovell is that he tells the truth. You can only get better if you deal with the truth. I also really like the fact that he's always seeking to get better. He's constantly thinking 10 years into the future."

But I thought Lovell was the worst thing to ever happen and was alienating every donor? Certainly getting this guy people long for back is against the narrative

Is that really a narrative out there? Giving has been way up under Lovell.

Yeah in fact I'm pretty sure there's been scoop threads on how Lovell is ruining the university

I had heard something similar a few years ago. Jumping the gun on announcements and the Business School fundraising was really delayed. I think the Aurora thing was another one.

However, based on recent announcements, it seems things are looking much better.

Then f'in speak English!

No it's easier to insinuate that you know things using code, and then tell everyone you knew, and that is what the trail of breadcrumbs you were leaving was about.

It's the scoop way!

Lens seems to have the scoop: https://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=61389.msg1305595#msg1305595

Things happen fast.  It doesn't change the fact that big donors were worried Mike was building too much.  And if you notice, recent donations have stressed programs not physical improvements.  That's a really nice transition.  He definitely has his strengths but his wanting of big shining things that ranged from trying to kill off summer reunions to build up Homecoming to Aurora / Bucks fall out to the Business School location debacle upset a lot of people internally.  If you could say anything it was that things were unpredictable and he was prone to moving on the last idea he heard.

Re: Steve, I typed that in early February, we were 9-9 and 5-7 in conference.  I didn't find those results acceptable but the main drum beat here was "rebuilding year, just graduated all-time leading scorer, great youth in DJC, Garcia, Lewis, Aidoo etc.  Wojo's seat wasn't really even warm.  I'm convinced the listless performance at the BET + the Blog Boys is what did him in.
