Not terrible. Not good. 6-9, I think.

2-1 NIT
0-2 NCAA
4-6 BET

Marquette Overload

This information can be found at http://www.muoverload.com if interested.

If you go to the Head Coaches tab you can see Wojo's regular season and postseason records. You can use the arrows under the headers to sort and filter data as well to compare him against other MU coaches.

If you want to see Wojo's record in other tournaments go to the Schedule tab, filter for Wojo, then filter for the tournament you are interested in. All Wojo games from that tournament will appear.

3-1 on Wednesday speaks more to the fact that we've been a pretty bad team under Wojo more often than not.

He is is 0 for seven years. Not a great record, IMO.

His 0-2 record in the NCAA tournament were two ass-kickings btw.  We have been nowhere near winning an NCAA tournament game.  Very, very, sad for a historically awesome program.

Average margin of defeat was 19 points.

Old Big East 8 Years 8 NCAA Tourneys 9 Wins Mostly on Buzz. New Big East 8 Years 2 NCAA Tourneys 0 Wins. Some of this is on the Conference Change and some of this is on  Buzz and Mostly Wojo.

I just did the math on another thread.  Buzz had one garbage year that followed five straight NCAA bids.

That's plenty of track record for Wojo to build on.

Instead we got a dumpster fire and a list of excuses longer than War & Peace.

Lol.  The 1886 American Edition of War and Peace is worth about 17K.

So about $1,200 per point scored in the first half today?

0 NCAA wins in 7 years is more than a drought and clearly a change needs to be made but isn't the interpretation of Marquette being an "historically awesome program" where 95% of the virulent arguing on this board happens? Objectively we're somewhere in the top 25-40 programs which means a) we should expect peaks and valleys, not consistent national prominence and b) you would have a very difficult time convincing anyone that is not an alum that we are "historically awesome" and it's setting a standard we just are not going to live up to.

Iirc, when Wojo took over, we were the 25th winningest program of all time. Thru last season we're now 46th. Oy vey.

yeesh - though programs 26 - 45 got super hot the last 7 years so you've gotta put it in context

The "historically awesome" label stuck with me, and clearly it's up to the individual eye to define awesome, but IF my #'s are correct (from Wiki on the fly) if you define history as the:

past 30 years - we've made the NCAA 57% of the seasons and past the first weekend 17% of the seasons. we've been affiliated with a conference 31 yrs and have finished in 1st just under 10% of the seasons.
past 40 years - NCAA 48% of the seasons, past the first weekend 12.5% of the seasons
past 50 years - NCAA 58% of the seasons, past the first weekend 24% of the seasons

Clearly not headed in the direction to help these averages out but I think we become blinded by our peaks and ignore our averages.

Do you guys remember the Luke Winn tweet in 2015 or 2016 that MU had more Top 100 recruits on their team than the rest of the Big East combined?  Maybe Buzz's problem is he left the cupboard too full, hard to find anything.

We were ranked the 17th best program in history about 9-10 yrs ago in one analysis.  I thought it was 13th but I guess it was 17th.  Anyhow if you have/had the 25th most wins in college hoops history, with a chip, 3 F4's and a bunch of E8/S16's, you are historically awesome.  Keep in mind how many NCAA teams there are and that 6-8 teams are "bluebloods" that always get superior talent.

Our history matters, and the greatness of Al and those Warriors teams matter.  Still.  It's about whether the administration gets their heads out of their buttocks, hires the right person, and values the supreme awesomeness of Warriors hoops.  And don't forget our history includes a myriad of badass unis, including Bo's untucked J's, which will always have a lasting impact on the game.

maybe that means that top 100 doesn't mean that much when it comes to success.

Our history only matters to us. It doesn't mean anything to a recruit who probably doesn't even know who Al McGuire was and whose parents probably were unborn or very small kids during his time at MU.

Sad but true. We're approaching 45 years since the title. Since then we have one Final Four appearance. To kids today Gonzaga is head and shoulders above us when it comes to the top Jesuit school programs, and Loyola has more recent success. Villanova is the premier team in the conference by far, and Georgetown will always have the academic advantage over us when it comes to recruitment and kids and parents who care about that. The best thing we have today is a now-retired Dwyane Wade (who played at MU before the current crop of HS recruits were born) and Jimmy Butler. But, unlike Jordan back in the day, there isn't as much of a connection to their colleges played up.
