2nd seeded Marquette Women's Basketball take on 6th seed Creighton tonight in the Big East Tournament Semifinals.  The game is at 5P CST on FS1.

Marquette looks to advance to the BET Final for the 5th straight season for a chance to take on national #1 UCONN  (technically UCONN has to beat Villanova in a game today for that to happen but I don't see any way UCONN loses that game).  Marquette had a pretty respectable showing at UCONN on Monday losing 63-53.  Marquette is a lock for an at-large NCAA Tournament bid but is looking to avoid the 8/9 seed in the tournament.

MU wins 64-59, and gets UConn tomorrow night at 7pm Marquette Standard Time.  Game will be on FS1.  Congrats to #MUWBB.

hope they are finally ranked in Top 25 tomorrow

I'm not expecting them to be ranked this week but they should at least jump ahead of DePaul in the others receiving votes category - will see for sure tomorrow (AP poll) and Tuesday (Coaches' Poll).  Marquette's NET was 31 entering today's game but they are only projected to be an 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The game tonight was ugly and definitely not one of their better games this season.  But nice to pick up the W and advance to the BET final for the 5th straight season.

Wouldn't that be the correct seed line based on the NET tho?

You realize that if NCAA seeded completely on NET, that #31 would be an 8 seed right?  The 8 seeds would be 29-32.

I'm wrong as usual :)

MU ladies are underrated imo. Solid team. Excellent coach. Gotta believe they are better than anticipated at this point in Duffy's run. The problem with that 8-seed is you get #1 in round two. Makes for a difficult ncaa run.
Not calling a win tonite, but do feel a good game will be had.

It will still be hard to beat a 1 seed in the second round of course but at least with the bubble in San Antonio it wouldn't be on the 1 seed's home court this year.  And yeah a lot of times I like the 10 seed over an 8/9 to avoid the 1 seed in the second round.

If you're ever going to beat UConn it's tonight...

- 3rd game this season between the two (MU played even the last 3 quarters in Game 2)
- Kind of a meaningless game (UConn has bigger fish to fry + they've already won the conf)
- Uconn, while far superior, is young (they'll be a bear next year and beyond)
- This is MU's Super Bowl

Marquette came oh so close to being ranked in today's AP poll.  They are first in others receiving votes with 52 points and 24 (Florida gulf coast) who just moved into the poll this week had 54 points and 25 (South Dakota state) who moved from 21st to 25th had 53 points.  DePaul was still barely ranked last week and only got 5 votes today.

The Coaches' Poll comes out tomorrow so a good showing against UCONN tonight might propel them into the top 25 in that poll.  An upset win tonight would definitely do that 😀.

MU moved up to #30 in the updated NET rating
https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-women/d1/ncaa-womens-basketball-net-rankings

The conference had a few teams make a push early for bids, but it looks like it may only be UConn & MU getting bids
DePaul NET dropped to around 70th.  I think they had been to the NCAA tournament like 18 years in a row.

Yeah 2002 is what I've read for the last time DePaul didn't make the NCAA Tournament.  Charlie Creme who does ESPN bracketology predictions still predicts them making it as an 11 seed.  I could see it going either way with DePaul - program's reputation shouldn't be a factor for selection but I think it is.  They're going to have a long week yet waiting to find out...

Haha yeah. For as much as the top ranked team in men's basketball is typically better than a solidly in the field but not ranked team, you can typically multiply that tenfold in women's basketball. The very top women's teams are playing a different sport than everyone else.

UConns starters could get badly injured in a car accident and their bench would still beat us. Had a great year and Duffys showing she doesn't believe in rebuilds. That's nothing to bay an eye at, the past 5 seasons have been better than probably any MUWBB season before. (Except maybe 07 at a quick glance) Never thought I'd see the day where I was more excited for MUWBB than the men's team especially given the state of the programs when I was there.

Let's make some tournament noise now!

1999-2000 (first time they were ever nationally ranked I'm pretty sure) and the 2006-07 team you mentioned were the best prior to the 5 1,000 point scorers with Kieger.

If Lott and LVK don't come back for another year, that will be a lot to replace.  But I'll worry about that later and enjoy this team in the tournament for now
