Thursday morning, the Big East was 3-5 against other high-major programs and was facing a 7-game high-major weekend slate in which they were underdogs in all 7 games. Thankfully, the league went 4-2 with one cancellation, leveled that record, and put the league in far better shape when it comes to Selection Sunday and the NCAA units the league so desperately needs after the last NCAA Tournament was cancelled.

Warning...this article gets pretty deep into the data.

Amazing analysis. Thank you. These BE games vs. the high majors I would also unofficially loosely keep track of and it seemed we were always just above 500 which you have proven to be true.

Man, the PAC 12....

The Pac-12 is woeful. I checked and rechecked that 2019 season, it was so abysmal. Another thing that hurts them is simple lack of scheduling. I'm sure location factors in, but they are generally playing 30-32 games against Top-6 leagues whereas everyone else is in the 40-60 range. Even the smaller Big East and Big 12 play more Top-6 games than the Pac-12 ever does with 2 more teams. They do play some WCC teams, but in general just schedule a lot more cupcakes than the rest.

I hope the remaining games against high majors go well. If you believe KenPom, the Big East is the underdogs in 6/7 of the remaining games. That being said, I think KenPom puts the spreads for 5/6 of those losses as less than 3 (Cuse projected to spank Georgetown by double digits) so we should do better than 1-6.

FWIW only the Big 12 has really excelled in these games this year. Everyone else is around .500 or worse. This week is crucial for the Big East because the vast majority of our significant remaining games are this week. The good news is that now worst case scenario is probably 4-5 bids, whereas a week ago it looked like 2-3.

ACC: 6-6
Big East: 7-7
Big 10: 4-5
Big 12: 7-1
Pac 12: 3-6
SEC: 3-5
