More statistical nuggets on Theo John

Theo's 11.05% block percentage last season ranks 11th among all returning players in 2019-20.

Of the 10 returning players ranked ahead of Theo (who's listed at 6-9):

• 3 are listed at 7-0 or taller (including 7-3 Matt Haarms of Purdue)
• 1 is listed at 6-11 (last season's leader Jeff Otchere of Stony Brook)
• 4 are listed at 6-10 (including Yor Anei of Oklahoma St.)
• 1 is listed at 6-9 (Josh Nebo of Texas A&M)
• 1 is listed at 6-7 (Osasumwen Osaghae of Florida International)

Compared to those same 10 players, Theo ranks 4th in offensive rebounding percentage (11.1%) and 8th in defensive rebounding percentage (16.2%).

Theo ranks 5th among returning juniors in block percentage.

KenPom identifies Chris Obekpa's 2013-14 season as the closest player comp to Theo last season. Obekpa was a 6-9 center in his sophomore season at Syracuse, now playing professionally in New Zealand.

Theo also ranked 10th nationally in personal fouls committed per game (3.65). Not the kind of leaderboard you want to be on.

Sacar has the defense, but his offense is consistently meh. However, we've seen moments of Super Sacar where he goes on a tear and can't be stopped. If he can find that on a more regular basis, he could one of the best two way players in the BEast.

I think I remember reading a few years ago that's why Wojo recruited him.  He was at a high school tournament to watch Ellenson who had already been signed at that point and in the game before saw Sacar put up some ridiculous MH esque stats, asked around about him and then pretty much offered him a scholarship on the spot, even though he'd never heard of him prior.  Who know's if that's how his recruitment really went down but it's consistent with TAMU's assessment.
