A little bummed this was packaged into the challenge rather than a separate home and away
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Next year will be telling when the new matchups are created.  Many of these games are simply repackaged home/homes under the challenge banner.

It is nice to have two 10 team conferences so it is a true round robin. The sec - big 12 later in the year is fun but always a bit awkward figuring out who isn't playing

K State will be ok next year, obviously losing a ton, but a decent recruiting class coming in. If Sneed somehow enters and stays in the draft, that's another story.

I'm very curious as to MU's scheduling philosophy for next year. Road games at KSU and Madison aren't picnics, but MU really gained an advantage with both teams being worse next year compared to 2018. MU did really well to get Buffalo last year.

MU's 5 seed was a result of both their aggressive non con schedule and doing well in those games.

I wouldn't bet a lot of money on K-State being very good next season. They lose their three best players and the only two players on the roster that resemble a point guard. Maybe their recruiting class is good but only if there are some diamonds in the rough. Four guys, only 1 ranked in the top 175, only 2 ranked in the top 350.  Starting 5 look to be Sneed, Diarra, Mawein, McGuirl, and Stockard? One of their freshmen? I think they may be NIT bound or worse.

You are right that this was a smart bit of scheduling on Marquette's part. They got a quality home victory when Kansas State was up and they'll have an opportunity for a non-conference road victory when they are down. Anytime you can walk away form a home and home series 2-0, you know you did something right.

Assuming we are in the Gavitt Games, I don't think we will get another high major on the schedule. Orlando, Gavitt, at Bucky, at K-State are already 5 quality non-conference games. My guess is the try for another top mid or low major at home like they have each of the last four seasons (Belmont, Fresno State, Vermont, and Buffalo). We will also probably get another crappy cupcake as the last game before Big East play (Morgan State, Presbyterian, SIUE, American, and Southern). Given that we are 1-4 in Big East openers I kind of wish we would drop that strategy. Remaining games will be cupcakes of varying fattiness.

Maybe with a potential top 10 team they spring for one extra game against a high major but the Wojo era seems to have a definite scheduling formula.
