This team has 12 legitimate guys who can contribute minutes.  Who will get the short end and decide to transfer?  Will Elliott redshirt?

GGGG

Too early to speculate on the former.  I mean, I don't think anyone thought Haanif was going to be the one to transfer even 24 hours before he did.

I think Elliott could end up redshirting depending on his timeline and if he has another setback.  I also think Ike could end up seeking a medical redshirt (sorry JB) and being granted a sixth year with his back.

12 is now 11 with Elliott.  I don't see Eke getting anything more than garbage minutes even if healthy, so now its 10.

I do think Wojo will play 10 all guys to start the year.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Agreed, and Elliott I hope will not redshirt as he is the most athletic player at the guard position.  It will be a nice backcourt in 2 years with McEven and Elliott, with
Akanno as a backup, all big guards and athletic.  Add Joey, Bailey and Theo and you have a really good team in 3 years and Cain.  Hope by that time, Ike can be a
backup center.

I asked Wojo one on one when he was in Chicago about a possible redshirt and he did the best to skirt the question. You can tell it was a topic that brought him some stress.  A lot of "we'll see" from him. My guess is Greg sees the redshirt...which could be the best thing for him, an extra year at the gym

I hope we will be good to go by Jan. 1, has Chartonny is not overally athletic nor is Markus.  So losing Elliott to me is a loss.  Yes, he could use the redshirt year to get
bigger but being selfish,  like him to play this year.

BrewCity83

I agree.  If Elliott is healed 100% by the time the conference season starts, or at least some time in January, he'll get some important minutes and will help this year's team.  If not, he's probably a good candidate for a redshirt.

Don't want to think about Greg Elliot transferring. It wasn't that long ago that we were high on him coming in, making an impact, showing the talent, carrying himself well. The chaos toward the end of the Buzz years was difficult enough...just everyone stay put, please.

BUT, I know there's a tension here with so many with the talent for minutes.

Jay Bee

There are several guys who I could see transferring if playing time doesn't go their way -- remember, we have only a couple of guys scheduled to run out of eligibility after this season.

However, I think it's unhealthy to discuss specifics on the public message board. (In private, OK).

With Greg, it's way too early to tell. It's about his health, the team's performance and outlook, what Greg and his fam wants, what our coaches think, what benefits the team now and in the future, etc. Too many variables. If sitting out the full year makes sense, great... but many question marks need to be worked through with time. #respecttheprocess

We have a bunch of great kids. Our future is bright and there is plenty of playing time to go around.

Greg is a critical player for MU's success this year if he can come back , and is in the core group in the future. He and Jamal supply essential tools that no one else on the team can provide.

Maybe bit over the top there Herman.  Tell that to Markus and Sam now, and Joey, Bailey and McEwen in the future.

Personally, after watching the exhibition game, and granted it was only one game, Joey gonna be getting a lot of minutes and might make Jamal see more bench time.

Yus. Love Greg, but 'critical' is an overstatement. Markus may be the only critical guy on this team.

Greg makes sense as a redshirt. If we are in a good place to contend for a conference championship or looking like we could make a postseason run in January, maybe he comes back from the redshirt. When a guy is going to have to sit half the year already, it could be tough for him to get back into a groove with the team, though. Having him this year could be nice, but I don't see his presence/absence changing our outlook a ton, honestly.

I think Jamal is a likely transfer risk. I can see how he may have a tough time finding minutes with so much talent at the wing this year, and if he has a lesser role this year than last year, that could make him look for greener pastures. If Tuesday night is any indication of his off-season, he may not have made much progress, particularly on defense. I know, I know, sample size of one and all, but I was surprised to see him look a bit out of it this week after the way he finished last year. Competition for playing time will be tough, and I'm guessing Cain will be behind Joey and Bailey, only seeing real minutes if those guys are in foul trouble or get banged up.

Greg and Jamal are super quick, long and athletic pogo sticks, which are skills we need, and no one else really has. The other guys have other elite skills that are necessary and that is what makes a team.

Not to speak for JB, but Sam's game can be replaced with others on the team.  Markus' cannot, especially with Elliott injured.

Fair statement.  Two guys that can't get hurt for an extended period without really impacting our season are Markus and probably Joseph.

#UnBanSultan, for he has spoken the truth above.

We're of course BETTER with Sam, but the loss of Markus would change the look of the team completely. Usage would have to grow for other(s)...
