"It's a league that is loaded with high-powered offenses that play at a fast pace. There are always going to be points put on the board in Big East games. There are always going to be thrilling, thoroughly watchable and aesthetically pleasing games on TV. Case-in-point: Everyone of the top seven conferences has at least one team allowing less than 1.00 points-per-possession in league play ... except the Big East. We're a little more than halfway through conference play and Creighton, at 1.052 PPP allowed, has been the best defensive team in the conference."

Amen Brother Dauster!

I was excited when the NBE emerged from the ashes of the old.  But even I never thought it would be this good.

Ken Pomeroy had a great piece posted on the Athletic a couple days about the Big East as it compares to older versions of the league.

He compared the current version of the Big East (2014-2018) to previous eras of the league (1980-91; 92-05; and 06-13).  He concluded that this version has been better than the first two iterations of the league, and just behind the 06-13 conglomerate league.

It was a great read.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Said another way, teams in the Big East aren't so great at defense. Is Marquette more exciting to watch than Virginia? Probably. But it's not always pretty.

Personally, I'd probably rather watch a team like MSU or Purdue that score a ton of points while still playing good defense.

GooooMarquette

Anyone know BE teams' PPP allowed in non conference vs conference games?

That might help distinguish good offense from bad defense.  I suspect it's a little of both, but it would be nice to see if the PPP allowed were substantially lower in non conference games....

It's cute how closely you pay attention to my posting. Makes me feel special.

Also, there's a difference between complaining and disagreeing. Give em both a quick Google.

I'm fully aware of the difference.  I will stick by my original statement.

I've been thinking about getting an athletic subscription. Seems like they have a lot of great content.  Is it worth it? I mostly just follow NCAAB, NBA and MLB.
