The Rockets set a trio of NBA 3-point records in a 122-100 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night.

The Rockets set records for 3-pointers made (24) and 3-pointers attempted in a half (31) and in a game (61).

A 3-pointer by Ryan Anderson with 32.3 seconds left to play set the mark for most 3s in a game. The old mark was shared by Houston in 2013 and Orlando in 2009.

The Rockets had previously set the record for the most 3-point attempts in a game with 50 on Nov. 25 at Sacramento, beating the previous mark of 49 set by Dallas in 1996.

Houston now has attempted 40-plus 3-pointers in four of its past five games and 12 times overall this season.

The game is shifting to shooters launching from behind the arch.  Golden State is famous for this style, even MU is starting to play this way.

Is this a good thing?  By "good" is this an entertaining style you would like to watch?  If so, what about going "all-in" with this style?  How about a 4-point shot (half court?)  How about anything instead the the arch under the rim a 1-point shot (Bobby Knight has promoted this).

Thoughts.

It is about using available space in time.  Time is the shot clock and number of possessions, and space is spreading the floor to get the quickest, highest reward (probability and value). The spread offenses in college football and the NFL are very analogous.

All about statistics and odds paying out:  Find the unguarded space.

Interestingly, that space against Marquette's perimeter defense is in the paint where top teams are shooting 70+%.

I think its a good observation...MU might be shooting 3's more because they have guys who can...but I'm guessing there will be more "guys who can" as we see it works to win games. I don't want to give up seeing the great drives and dishes...but good spacing and ball movement are also great to see. And Steph Curry, wasn't he great to watch last year.

As for the rules changes...a little too much for me...keep the half court shots for $3000 tuition checks and Qdoba's for life. ;)

It's a trend. Defenses will  adjust.

Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.
