I wouldn't doubt something like this projected for the BEAST:

Villanova
X
Seton Hall (if Whitehead returns...maybe even without)
Creighton
Butler

G'Town
Marquette
Providence (assuming without Bentil)

St.Johns
DePaul

Whitehead is the kind of one and done I'd like MU to get.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Feels like we're stuck in neutral if those rankings hold true.

Don't worry I hear we are on the Villanova plan

Even though we improved record wise in the Big East from 2014-15 to 2015-16, our roster still does not match up well with the upper half of the Big East. Nova, Xavier, Seton Hall, Providence and Butler should be projected to finish higher than MU next season. Creighton will be better next year too. It's going to be a tough challenge for Wojo and the players again next year.

They call this ridiculously early for a reason.  There's very little information to go on other than this years' performance and some info on the purported talent of newcomers.  It skews toward the "always in the mix" schools - of course Duke, Kentucky, Indiana, Louisville, etc are going to be included, because they're there every year.  I think Kentucky is perennially #1 or 2 in these polls, but their actual results are always going to depend on whether Cal can get his assortment of freshman Burger Boys to play together as a team.  Last year that worked spectacularly.  This year, not as much.  Once the season starts, there will always be teams that come out of "nowhere" to end up high in this mix.  Marquette's aim next year is to be one of those teams, and long term, it's to become (again) a team that's always in the mix in these types of polls.

Barring impact by injuries, MU better finish 10-8 or better in conference or Wojo should rightfully be in deep trouble.

Too harsh?  MU could have had that record this year if they had any toughness.

Wrong on so many levels.

Only two of their losses came from a toughness deficit and those were Seton Hall absolutely bitch slapping our kids in both second halves. The rest are down to classic rookie mistakes (lazy passes, getting too high after a mini run, getting too low after a mini run against, silly fouls, etc.)

Me too, especially because he's already been there for 2 years!

Wojo better be taking the Warriors to the big dance next year or his a$$ is grass.

Buzz forced Ahmed Hill to red shirt rather than play half a season. I think the Hokies will be a good team.

Any poll at this point is not worth the paper it is written on though .

Remember, reporters often use these way too early rankings articles to throw in very bold predictions. If they are wrong, no one remembers. If they are right, they can link back to it and use it as proof of their genius.

Agreed,

Crean took us to the tournament in his third year.  No reason MU can't make the tournament next year.  Ellenson may be gone, but so now is the "inexperience" excuse.   But MU is now too short! -- remember when Lazar Hayward played the 5 with the midgets in the backcourt?   Not expecting them to beat Villanova, but a win or two against the other top echelon teams should happen and put them on the plus side of .500 in conference.

Would not have expected to see Butler and Creighton.http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25542228/duke-is-ranked-no-1-in-the-ridiculously-early-preseason-top-25-and-one

Will Louisville suffer another tournament disqualification for their recruiting violations? We gave out T-shirts they allegedly gave out Hookers!

Thank you, a fan that sees what I see. The young and inexperienced excuse is out the door. We will still be a small team but Buzz won tons of games with Lazar playing the 5 and Mo Ack and Cooby on the court a ton at the same time (both under 6 feet tall). It comes down to coaching and how he prepares the team. We were softer than puppy doo-doo last year. Hope that changes next year. Missing the big dances next year and people ought to be greeting pretty-boy Wojo at the Al with pitchforks. Big dance or BUST.
