19 Points 5 Boards versus Oklahoma. The kid is the real deal and he was on our team. Kind of like Michigan State letting Nick Saban go for a few extra dollars to LSU...

Well, except that we didn't have the option of throwing some cash his way to get him to stay.

And Saban played better defense....

MU Buff

It's a shame he wanted to leave Milwaukee and I wish him all the best as well. He has looked unstoppable offensively in his first 4 games for Iowa St.

So glad Wojo gave Juan Anderson all those minutes instead of Deonte before he transferred.

Deonte leaving was unfortunate. He is a phenomenal talent.

Deonte's transfer hurt and hurts my soul.

MBD would have been phenomenal. Such a tremendous loss.

I don't know what all went on re: Wojo's PT decisions with Deonte and I don't know what all went on with Deonte's decision.

That can be left laying where it lays.

What I do know is I admired Deonte's game for many years and wanted to see him in blue and gold (and white, and baby blue, etc.) for a longer period of time.

Very happy for him.  Looks like he made the right Choice and on the way to a Great season.

ISU is a great fit for Burton. After things with his mom and his coach leaving, a new start may have been for the best. Amazing talent, but just not quite the right fit with the new staff. Glad he's fitting in there.

Blaming the transfer on Wojo is silly.

Deonte is a great talent that does not play defense so he sat at Marquette. Al would have and did do the same. Glad to see he fits at ISU.

Agree with this. Besides Traci and Sandy I'm not seeing much defense at all.

Deonte is a great offensive talent with Big East athleticsm.  A good kid who represented Milwaukee well, and would have been a great role model for MPS.  That said, Wojo had to play slow tempo with a focus on defense. Not a good fit last year and sitting on the bench was time wasted.

I will say this again here (although Wojo played the role he committed to when he was hired which was to give the inherited kids a fair chance): It didn't take much to know that Todd, JD, Deonte and then Levin were not going to make it far with Wojo. Then Teve transfered at season's end. As a result, MU is in Year 1 of rebuilding in Year 2 of Wojo.  In retrospect, this was time lost for the affected kids and the program because of what was inevitable.

Easy to second guess on a grey area and perhaps this helped in the longer run as he had more playing time to sell. Time will tell. It left a hole that MU is still digging out of.

I'll be the first to admit that Deonte is fun to watch when he has the ball, but in that OK game he didn't play a lick of defense and got blown-by numerous times.  On offense, without the ball, be never moved.  Not one step.

I hope he becomes more than a one dimensional player, but right now that's all he is.   No sour grapes, I still wish we had him... But he's not a complete player.

Deonte found an excellent situation for himself. He's on a very good team where his role is to be a scorer. They aren't looking for him to do much in the way of defense or rebounding or anything else. His job is to be instant offense off the bench. That's it. He can excel in that role because of the talent around him. Opposing teams have to account for Niang, Morris and Nader on the perimeter and McKay in the post. That can open up a lot for a guy like Deonte. On MU, he'd likely be the primary scoring option on the perimeter. That's a very different role than his current one in Ames.

I commend him for finding such a good fit. It'll be interesting to see how things change when everyone but Morris is gone next season. I hope he continues to do well.

Big Burton fan, but do not think playing time or new coach was reason behind the transfer. Sometimes people need a change of scenery. Hope he has great career at ISU. He definitely is fun to watch on the offensive side of the court.

After his mother's passing, getting out of Milwaukee was the best thing for him.

I'll cheer for him and the Cyclones the next couple of years, as long as they're not playing MU or another BE school.
