How come these SJSU players aren't getting technicals for throwing their arms up in the air after a foul every single dang time?

Cheatham has driven great but has missed every layup, maybe like five of them.

Carter is 1 for 7 with 4 turnovers........

Well noted, Cheatham can drive at will, but when it's into a missed layup or charge, it doesn't help so much...

I think SJSU is a little better than advertised.  They have some competitive players. This is a good tune up for Saturday. A good lesson for us.

This game just goes to show that this is such a young team. Players can be ridiculous one game and then completely the opposite the next game.

Fishy is having a great game on the defensive end. Completely dominating inside. Not too shabby on that dunk either.

4-4 and per the announcers, unexpectedly better than most thought they would be. That's good for, as you said, Saturday, and also good for the RPI.

Won zero games last year against D1 teams.

A lot of guys suspended last year

mug644

Yes about Cheatham; he loves to drive, but will be better off once he realizes--like Jerel did--that pulling up is the better choice sometimes.

Luke for STOG.

So I'm thinking you agree with me? They have 2 wins already over D1 teams this year.

Yes, their RPI will be vastly improved.

I got it at -17 this afternoon. Sweated that one out.

Yeah everything I saw this afternoon was 17-18. Nothing close to 22.

Seems like this is an ideal cupcake because while they'll probably have a poor record, being in the MWC guarantees better opponents' opponents returns.

Interesting. Some book somewhere had it at 22, then. ESPN is pretty accurate with their game lines. Weird that one book would be so much different than the others.

The line jumped like crazy between late afternoon and tip off.  From -171/2 to -22

That's nuts. I've never seen anything like that a few hours before tip off.

Would that mean that a lot of money was being bet on marquette or something else?

I was kind of surprised by the number of SJS fans at the game, possibly due to Cody Schwartz West Depere HS

I'm not an expert but typically it's because a lot of money was being bet on Marquette, yeah. Then they raise the line to try to get some money on the other side (SJSU)

Normally that would be the case but wouldn't it be strange for someone to make such a big bet on a meaningless college basketball game. Hope the fellow or lady got the bet down while it was still at 17 1/2. Must have been heart attack time when SJ cut it to six. At the track we call these folks Bridge jumpers.

Correct. The book would ideally have equal money on each side of a point spread. You'll typically get $.90 in winnings for every $1 you bet. $1 bet on a spread will pay $1.90 in total.

So $1 on MU to cover (paying the player $1.90 in this case) and $1 on SJSU (book taking the whole $1 given the result) will net the book $.1. This is obviously done on a much biggest scale.
