Very cool press conference. The man knew ball and was one hell of a coach,

We R Final Four

Out of curiosity was he a candidate for our head coaching job when we hired O'Neil? I mean they were hired at the same time and if we turned down Majerus when he was about to go on that incredible run at Utah for O'neil, who was still decent, then man was that a mistake.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

No

He resigned only 3 years prior to KO taking over (Dukiet taking over for Rick).   Majerus was a great coach, unfortunately put us in a tough spot when he resigned so late and led to us settling for Dukiet.

No.  I don't think either party was interested.  Remember at the time Utah was considered a mid-major program in the WAC - a pretty terrible basketball conference.

Got to work with Rick from the time he left Utah until he passed.  An incredibly well-read man.  We differed on politics but he was sure fun to talk policy and issues with over a meal.  He always made you think.

And he was always recruiting.  We would go to a Chinese restaurant and when the proprietor would mention she was going back home, he would ask her to scout talent.  He was dead serious.

At one meal, a top current player joined us.  He absolutely adored Rick.  It was powerful to see.

Just ate at that Chinese joint and was laughing about Rick during dinner. We always took his food advise seriously.

What Chinese joint was that?

Let's not forget, while Majerus might have had many likable or endearing traits, he was also a bit of a dick. (Which, to be fair, isn't uncommon amongst Division I basketball coaches)

Yes, Jing's. Rick very much endorsed the place.

You can remember him how you want, by what you have read.  I will remember him how I knew him.

I agree completely. The kindness and generosity he shared with my family was unreal. He is greatly missed.

+ 1000, Lens. Rick was tough, but also smart and had a heart of gold. IMO a great guy.
