How bout a hand for Dwight Burke?
« on: December 08, 2007, 07:39:06 PM »
What a game by Burke.  If he can give us efforts like he did tonight for the rest of the season, watch out, MU is going to stomp some people.  Wow, what a wind.  Watching that game sure was a nice break from studying for graduate school finals!

agreed.. Burke is definitely honorable mention for game stud.. it was tough but DJs numbers and game impact just whomped everyone else's.

James played just about a flawless game tonight, and I liked how he got in the face of Hughes on that double technical.  But, Burke has morphed into a totally different player this year.  I agree on James getting the stud of the game, but Burke is junior stud tonight.

Is anybody going to commend Murff for saying before he played a game his freshman year that Burke was our best big man?

I know it's just one game, but Burke and Barro proved to be our best two man big man combo in several years. They're not on the level of Jackson/Merritt yet, but they're more than servicable.

Have to give Dwight a lot of credit for working so hard to improve.  Keep it up Dwight!

Side note:  I don't feel like James did anything to warrent a T.

I was very impressed  with Burke's play tonight and actually felt better with him on the floor instead of Ooze.

I thought a big point was when they fouled him intentionally on the inbound and he made both free throws.

Props to the 4th amigo.

4-5 from the floor as well as 4-5 from the line.  I was very impressed with his game tonight, and especially pleased by the FT shooting.

Is anyone going to reprimand all those that said he was a stiff?    :o

I agree, i believe all the ref had to do was step between the two, neither of them had said anything.  Its the case of the ref just on a power trip in my opinion...i can't wait to watch it again tomorrow, luckily i have a roomate that recorded this on his comp

I have always felt that Burke was not a quality Big East Big Man.  HOWEVER, today I take that all back.  The guy played like he looks in the mirror (a stud).  He is a strong kid, played with heart, his brain and knocked down free throws!

What's up with Ousmane?  It appears he has regressed a bit since last year.  Totally weird since he appeared to be making strides.  Did his summer off at home hurt his development?

I saw a few comments here that Ousmane played well - I agree with the above comment though.  I think he looked uncomfortable- in the first half I remember one very specific incident where he got one of those dump off passes and he went up so soft - like he was afraid.  He got fouled, but he needs to go up strong and throw that baby down!

Don't worry.  Murff will give himself more than enough credit.  :)

I think Burke has elevated his game a lot more than Barro has taken a step back.  Barro just doesn't have hands with the type of guards who will whiz it  in.   Barro hustles, will grab rebounds in his area and is adequate at scoring around the basket off of feeds but he just fumbles the ball way too much.

Burke deserves all of the praise that he is getting for his performance tonight and more. Incredible game for him tonight.

In my opinion, he is my player of the game. I absolutely cannot deny that James played like a maniac tonight and earned the credit, but Burke thoroughly impressed me tonight with his intensity, presence around the basket, and most surprisingly, his free throw shooting.

BIG WIN!!

Great work by Burke, but all that said I still think Barro will be our best low post option in the BE. Kinda goes along the lines of what ive been saying all along with DJ and jerel- jerel is excellent but i still feel james needs to be the one for this team to be a legitimate national threat.

In all reality, to have one of those special seasons we will need both dj and jerel, which i dont doubt we will have, as well as both burke and barro, which im not gonna jump the gun on after one game, but I think they can be atleast 'serviceable.' oh yeah and we need the 3 from somewhere, anywhere, dont all go cold on the same night please type of thing

How sweet would it be to have both Burke and Barro turn into complete beasts this year?!  If Ouse could play big like he did last year, and if Burke can bring it like this every night....watch the f out dude.

And word, definitely gotta applaud DB for his performance.  1 board shy of a double double!

What a statement:
"Conventional wisdom said Wisconsin, one of the nation's best rebounding teams, would pound the Golden Eagles' underdeveloped inside game... The Badgers started four players 6'7" or taller, and entered the game leading the Big Ten in rebounding... Instead, Marquette outrebounded Wisconsin 41-34 -- including 21-16 on the offensive end."

12 pts, 9 rebs in only 17 minutes.  More so, he seemed to come up big just when we lost the lead or momentum.  His FT's at the end of the game were huge.  Couldn't believe they didn't call an intentional foul there...but then again..

This from a guy who the 620WTJM color guy said has "no offensive skills" and "will only score off put-backs".

We couldn't have done it without Burke.  Played an all-around great game.  Strong finshes offensively, came down with boards, stayed tough on D, and outhustled everyone while he was in.

Having wtached Brendan Haywood for years with the Wizards I am loath to draw too much from one game. That said, it was a nice game for Burke to decide to shine.

I didn't see it as a power trip call.  He knew this was a heated rivalry game and didn't want to let the game get out of hand.  It was a double-T, effectively hurting no one.  I agree that James did nothing wrong in this situation.
