Syracuse is playing Umass on ESPN classic right now.  I think this is the 5th or 6th Syracuse game ESPN has televised already this year. Do you think this has anything to do with the fact that so many ESPN personalities are Syracuse grads?

I think it probably has something to do with Syracuse's long term success under Jim Boeheim. Or possibly the popularity of Syracuse players in the pros. Or the popularity established through being one of Nike's best selling school apparel. Or because Syracuse always has good crowds at the Carrier Dome.

It's not like ESPN one day said, "Hey, were going to broadcast the hell out of the Yankees." You have to do something to earn that right. The Yankees, like Syracuse have a wide fan base in the NCAA, and is a team that is recognized by their name. Even if they aren't good, casual fans recognize the name, and watch the game.

everyone knows that the reason syracuse is always on tv is because they wear orange.  duh.   ;D

seriously i dont understand the draw.  their coach is constantly whining whenever he sees some kind of "hardship."  plus they have guys like devendorf who are complete thugs and not worth rooting for.  plus they always always always crash and burn.  but they do have a large fanbase, i think its because its a relatively large school, plus anyone living in upstate new york latches onto them like theres no tomorrow.  over thanksgiving, my uncle was in town and wanted to watch the cuse game which happened to overlap the MU game.  so i had to watch MU-Duke at a bar.

jutaw22 that should be a crime... i feel bad for you... I hate Syracuse i dont like any of there players and i have never had any draw to watch them but i kinda have that feeling about all the teams with "history" I.E. Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, UNC, Duke, Cowboys, Patriots.

ESPN is LOADED with Syracuse graduates, that's a big part of it.  The entire sports television industry is loaded with Syracuse alum, I work with about 7 or 8 everyday just out in L.A., let alone the huge number that are in NYC and Bristol, CT where ESPN is located.

Those alums in powerful positions help.

Well shoot.  One day when I am the president, I will make it a law that all Marquette games must be carried in high definition on CBS.  Booyah.  Sorry you guys will have to wait about 20 years for that one though.

pucker up - we expect better from you!

Syracuse is only about 4 and half hours (by car) from Bristol...that could explain it, too.
