I won't drop names, but one of the greatest managers in baseball history once told me: "Sometimes you have to be willing to lose the game today to win the pennant tomorrow."

Unfortunately with professional sports issues such as cap room and payroll become a factor that can be even stronger than competing.  I'm not sure it works as an analogy in this case however.  That would be like Wojo intentionally playing walk ons over scholarship players to encourage transfers to open up scholarships.
Shut this board down at the opening tip.  If they win, open it back up.  If they lose, keep it shut it down until the next morning.  - Sultan of Slurpery
