I'm kind of surprised it's that much, but Vegas knows people like to pound Duke. I'd expect it to be around MU +2.5 by tip.

At +4, get your Christmas shopping done early this year, and take MU and the points.   ;)

No way the line moves that much at this point. It would take a huge amount of money on MU. I don't think this game will be heavily wagered by the public or by the professionals. Its too early in the season. I mean, we really don't know if the MU squad who played Chaminade or who played OK St will show up. Its very risky.

I can get MU +5. Still thinking about it.
But I like to throw handfuls...

If you can get MU at +5, take it and run with it.

I would normally think that the number would move down. For the pro gamblers who rely on the power ranking numbers, Duke is right now at 85, while Marquette is at 84. Because it's on a neutral court, the "true" line would be Duke -1. But, the Duke tax comes into play, hence you get Duke -4. MilTown is right that it's probably too early in the season (and the holiday comes in to play too) for this to get too much action. The pro gambler would typicaly be going against the tax, and take MU and the point(s). That's why I thought we might see the line move. Forgetting to take the public into play, you're right, they'd pound Duke, so I stand corrected.

Sounds like we have a gambler here! I agree with you. Either way, I think looking at things objectively, you would have to take Marquette. If this was a game later in the year, and maybe the tourney, I think you are right that all the action early would be on MU and the line would drop.

I tend to shy away from college hoops until the second half of conference play. As you see now with upsets and close games, there is too much uncertainty right now.
