He speaks so well. He's so well spoken. He's very articulate. He uses proper English.

I said "could be interpreted as racist", I did not call you a racist.  You said "that was pretty racist".

It's a big world, lots of things get interpreted incorrectly.  Just don't be the guy that jumps to conclusions too fast.

That's fair. And that's why I apologized for phrasing my original post as an accusation. But as I learned in my intro to comm class at Marquette, intent means nothing, effect means everything. I interpreted the message as a racist comment, ergo it was a racist comment. Which is not a big deal. People make discriminatory comments all the time. It is a part of life. It doesn't mean everyone is a racist, it just means we all do little things without even thinking about it that strengthen a discriminatory culture.

Well said Rocky.  TAMU is a valuable poster and I enjoy his insight.  He is also a college administrator, where you need to be PC to move up the ladder, or to prevent being kicked off the ladder.   He is a product of his environment.

That's true to an extent. By my viewpoints on these topics started being formed during my time at Marquette (damn liberal Jesuits). I do have to be "on" more when I am at work. And I am much more prone to not point things out or even engage in them when I'm not at work. But this isn't just a product of me trying to stay on the ladder. In fact, at a conservative university like TAMU, I'd probably earn more points if I didn't fight for these viewpoints. For example, trying to fight for creating a specific policy dealing with transgender athletes definitely cost me some points with the older Aggies.

After doing my own reading and research on the topic, I have come to the conclusion that all of our words and actions have consequences. It's important to watch what and how you say things. And if someone calls you out, its not the end of the world. Don't blame them for being offended, look at yourself and reflect upon why you offended them. Apologize, ask for clarification, and move on. Doing just that much would do wonders for our society.

That is my second favorite song from Avenue Q. Here is the best:

Agreed. Both songs speak universal truths
