The worst part was Brad Stevens leaving. That program at Butler is not set up to succeed without a great coach and I'm not sure how that guy is gonna do it. But nevertheless they can fill the role of doormat for a while. This league simply needs more teams.

Possibly from a TV revenue perspective.  I have no idea about that aspect of the league.

But regarding play, I disagree that we need more teams.  The Big12 has 10 teams and put 7 in the tourney (and 1 in the NIT).  We can do that.  I think it will just take time and commitment of resources to basketball.

Adding one upper-level fixture in the Big East is important

If only either SLU or UD were upper-level fixtures. Neither are. Both are flashes in the pan. SLU might be otherwise if Majerus were still around, but he's not, and they'll flounder as usual. UD made a nice run this year - congrats to them - but they don't show nearly the commitment to sports that is necessary to join the league.
