Just from a local perspective, as we have already hashed this column out on the VCU board.

Woody is largely viewed as a hack by VCU fans. Although he is a graduate, he largely ignored the team for many years in his writing.

By and large, most do not feel as though this article is an accurate representation of the feelings surrounding the program. You could say that Woody has an axe to grind. We are playing in the A-10 with 3/4 of a roster recruited for the CAA. These things take time. The vast majority of fans are understanding of that fact. As a Marquette fan, I know what it takes to simply make three S16's in a row. That is what Woody wants out of a program that spends approximately 1/3 of what Marquette spends and doesn't have 1/4 the history.

Any time I hear that a newspaper reporter has an "axe to grind" against a coach or a program, I think the fan has an axe to grind against that reporter.

"It's not how white men fight." - Tucker Carlson

"Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism." - George Washington

"In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell

There is a small amount of truth in what he says. I am not bitter. I am just attempting to convey the fact that I have lived in Richmond for many years and have a great understanding of the local's (VCU fans and non-fans alike) feelings about a particular newspaper and reporter. There isn't a lot of substance to what he said. It was a visceral piece. I thought I explained well enough why it wasn't a solid argument with the comparison to Marquette.
