From the article ...

Cords said Marquette already had engaged in internal discussions about the possibility of Williams leaving and added that the position would be filled as soon as possible.

Translated, they wanted Buzz to leave and start long before Friday at 5PM on finding a new coach.

I am not sold on the idea that Marquette pushed Buzz out. However, I do think there was some mutuality of thought in Buzz's departure. In other words, whereas MU may not have pushed Buzz out, they clearly knew he was looking and did not try to stop him.

The fact that information was released on a Friday at 5:00 PM seems to be consistent with Marquette's modus operandi as it relates to bad news. So, it makes sense that Marquette may have had some say in when the news was leaked. It appears more and more likely that Marquette was just as involved in this departure as Buzz was.

The more I read the more it becomes apparent Buzz wasn't given much of a choice but to leave, hence his inability to give the players a good explanation, or Gumbel a good explanation.

I took away:

"(Deonte) Burton, one of the Golden Eagles' leading players, said he definitely would return to Marquette despite the coaching change."

And...

"There was really no reason (given by Williams for leaving)," (Jamil) Wilson said. "He just said he had an opportunity and he was leaving. That was pretty much it."

"He said he was leaving as soon as he left the locker room and then we talked to Mr. Cords."

Well then... Classy.

What's the difference?  Have you ever been pushed out?  Had to push someone out? I have (both ways) and their is no difference.

Either we want you or we don't.  You don't "half want" an employee.  Half-wanting an employee is the worst possible outcome.  It has to be black and white.

They wanted Buzz to leave and be obliged.  end of story
