5 NCAA Tournaments, 3 Sweet 16's, 1 Elite 8, and yet . . .

I think it was that post-game interview when 5 years go (maybe longer) where Buzz inexplicable blew-up on Jim McIlvaine.  My wife turned to me in the car and said something to the effect, "good coach, but totally insane."  As much as I tried to ignore her words, I've always agreed.

He takes a team of underachievers to the Elite 8, and the next season seems totally lost coaching his team.  There were so many riddles to the man, that I could never completely back him as coach.  Tom Crean and even Mike Deane seem to have their defenders on this Board, but there were always reservations with Buzz.

I sincerely thank him for his service, but I still have no idea what to make of the guy?

Time will tell why he moved on.  It will be interesting to see how he does in the ACC.  In any regards I hope MU hires the right coach and keeps MU basketball successful.

I think you're on to something!  All the sweat soaked suits we've endured the last six years is witness to a man uncomfortable in his own skin.

Mods, this is one of the greatest comments that I have ever read.  Is there a way that we can honor it?

The strange part was that Jimmy Mc asked such a bland, typical post-game question.  I think he asked Buzz, "how do you keep your team motivated?"

"Wired differently," doesn't begin to explain it.

That was bizarre and, retrospectively, telling...

Tums Festival

What did Buzz say to McIlvaine and what was it based on?
"Every day ends with a Tums festival!"

The Jimmy Mac blow up was number one and the DJ Newbill buzz cut was number two.

This is outstanding!

Here's the thing, Buzz didn't handle things correctly there....just as he didn't at West Virginia but people get super bent on LW for calling it like it is.  I get the idea of keeping it in house, but I have a feeling that there were more than a few in house conversations and LW decided  he was going to outside for once.  People here lost their minds on that stuff.

At the end of the day, seems more than a few times Buzz didn't handle things correctly....and that includes the assault stuff IMO.

I have no problem with LW calling BW onto the carpet over "The Dance." But regardless of how ever many other issues there were you never, ever take an employee to task through the press. Ever! It's not just inappropriate but gutless.

People here were correct in finding LW's judgment worse than BW's.

Over in A Stan an AF Colonel calls one of my squadron work centers on the phone and is ordering one of my NCOs around. My NCO is politely refusing to comply not because he didn't want the extra work (he didn't) but because this Colonel has no business by passing chain of command and telling my people what to do.

Finally, this Colonel asks, "Sgt, do you know who I am?" My NCO replies with the same question to the Colonel. When the Colonel demands my NCO's name he is told, "This is SGT F UCK YOU!" The NCO then hangs up and tells his men they had all better leave for chow immediately.

Of course, the Colonel rings me up and starts ripping me a new one. Or tries to. I was a Lt Colonel at the time so he out ranked me but I told him that I had no interest in speaking with him about one of my NCOs because squadron discipline was my business and not his. I would only discuss with him the matter of a full Colonel by passing chain of command and reaching down into my squadron to give orders to my people.

There is a time and place for everything. Calling out a subordinate in plain view of the public is outrageous and inexcusable. The fact that LW chastised BW through the press diminished him, his authority, and compromised his ability to lead.

I tracked down my wayward NCO and made life difficult for him. But my message to him was that in disrespecting a senior officer as he did, regardless of however inappropriate the Colonel's behavior, it compromised the Sgt's ability to lead his own men. Therein lies my issue with LW's failure of leadership.
