I'll throw a name in the hat from the West Coast...
« on: March 22, 2014, 01:46:30 AM »
I know a lot of you don't wait up for the late game tip offs that occur in PST, but thinking about our recent departure got me thinking about a potential good fit.  I think Randy Stevens from Saint Mary's would be a very good coach for Marquette.  He's built a very solid program that has rivaled Gonzaga in the WCC the past 4-5 seasons, he has very good connections to some foreign players, the timing would be right after one of his assistant coaches violated NCAA recruiting policy resulting in him and his coaches not being allowed to recruit off campus this last season and the loss of 2 scholarships the next two seasons, and this would allow a very good coach and recruiter the resources and opportunitiy he's never had access to before.  If the NCAA violation could scare you away I'd simply ask you to do a little research on the matter.  Almost everyone thinks the punishment didn't fit the crime and the NCAA was way too harsh on their ruling.

He's coached and recruited NBA talent.  He took a relative unknown and had them vying for league supremacy with the greatest mid major program of all time.  He's made a couple of unlikely tournament runs.

Having personally watched him develop Saint Mary's into the program it has become I think he'd be a really good coach and recruiter that would only blossom from the support MU pours into it's basketball program.

I'm interested in your thoughts.

Mark Few!

Don't think he'd come and don't think it would be the right fit for either party.  I follow the Zags fairly closely.  It's too bad Romar can't coach worth a damn because that man can sure recruit.

I think Bennett could step in and pick right up where the 2012-2013 season left off before Buzz decided he could out coach his opponents using his role players.

I live in Bellevue and also follow the Zags. I was kidding about Few. He has a great deal at GU and loves the Inland Empire.

And you're right about Romar. I went to a few games at the Hech this year and they were awful. Again.

Randy Stevens sounds like a washed up WWF wrestler from the early 80s. Pass

No to Randy Bennett.

Plus it'll be hard pressed to get Aussies to sign with a Milwaukee club after the treatment Bogut received (and deservingly so).

You guys think way too small around here. Tim Miles?? Nice Coach, but if MU can't do any better than him....
