As the conference season winds down, what are posters thoughts on the biggest suprise and disappointment of the year...could be player, coaching, record etc.

My biggest suprise is that barring winning the BE tourney we will miss out on the big dance. I really didn't think we could get as far as we did last year, but I at least considered us a lock to make the field. I think that's what makes sports great...you can never take anything for granted.

My biggest disappointment is JJJ's development. I was really excited when we landed him and before the season it seemed like there was a lot of buzz about how smooth of an offensive game he had and I was hoping for some big contributions down the stretch. He hasn't gotten playing time lately for whatever reason. I still think he is gonna be a stud...just disappointed we couldn't have seen more development this year.

GooooMarquette

Biggest surprise:  John Dawson's game.  He is still the second best PG on a team that struggles at that position, but I look forward to some nice development over the next 3 seasons.

Biggest disappointment:  That none of the seniors took on the role of the team's emotional/motivational leader.  I'm not talking stats, because for the most part the seniors' stats are fine, but none of them seemed ready to rally the troops when we needed an emotional lift.

mattyv1908

Biggest surprise this season is that two of the three best teams in conference this year are new additions (Creighton, Xavier).

Biggest dissapointment has to be our complete lack of a transition game this season.  We went years watching Marquette force turnovers and convert into transition baskets and now we're watching the most plodding half court team that reminds me of the B1G brand of basketball.

Biggest surpruse, Deonte Burton. I slotted him in as a bench warmer in the beginning of the season a la Jamal Ferguson but he has proven he is ready for the big time. To a smaller extent Todds decelopment

Biggest disappointment, Jamil, Jamil, Jamil. I knew what we were going to get out of Derrick. Jamil just was never able to put it together. He has the BET to turn his marquette tenure around to prove he can be what everybody though he could.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Surprise: Jake. I never expected him to sniff the court this season. He improved every area of his game and became one of our most valued contributors.

Disappointment: Trey J. He was our highest ranked recruit since Doc Rivers. I really thought he was a threat to be a one and done. I thought he was going to light it up from three, have thunderous dunks in transition, and play at least passable defense. Turns out he wasn't even able to crack the rotation. I hope he taps his potential next season.

TAMU

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Golden Avalanche

Surprise: Inability to win the "big" games. Been a long time since MU was outclassed in this department.

Disappointment: Jamil Wilson.

WI inferiority Complexes

A lot of these "surprises" also sound like "disappointments."

tower912

Pleasant surprises:   Jake Thomas, Deonte Burton, John Dawson
Less pleasant surprises:   Jamil Wilson, JJJ, Juan, ST jr

Biggest Surprise and Disappointment - Buzz.

My bar for him was incredibly high, so makes it easier to fall short I guess.  As much as I've been critical of him this year - there still is not 1 coach in the country I would prefer to have at MU.  Love Buzz's story, and love who he is as a person...wait - I'm starting to sound like Buzz...

WarriorFan

Biggest Surprise:  Todd's still on the team ... and rapidly becoming "the man"
Biggest Disappointment:  Jamil.  I secretly thought we could see 18/10/5 from him, and a first round draft pick.  No chance.

I'm surprised I'm not more disappointed.

Biggest surprise -- After watching Buzz make lemonade out of lemons a couple of years back (the Acker and Cubie team), I thought even as we struggled early, Buzz would find a way to make this team work. He didn't.

Biggest disappointment -- How crappy we looked in losing to Ohio State, Creighton and Villanova in Philadelphia. A close second was that we could not win when we HAD to at Providence.

Another Big Disappointment -- Lack of leadership on the team and an ability to "pull things together" when we needed to. We did not have team chemistry and at times this year looked like we were "out there" somewhere.

Everybody learns about themselves from disappointments and set-backs. Here's hoping our returning team members and coaches look at this year as the beginning of a quest for something really special.

Stretchdeltsig

Biggest disappointments:  1.  Win-Loss record; 2.  Buzz's awful coaching; 3.  Jamil Wilson - thought he would be the "man" this year; and 4.  Duane Wilson injury.

APieperFan3

Biggest Surprise: Deonte Burton effectiveness eventho he's undersized. Will continue to improve finishing at the hoop with bigger bodies in there...especially if he can still consistently hit that midrange jumper.

Biggest Disappointment: Jamil Wilson. Painfully average. Zero improvement.
The "average fan" is an idiot.

muchamps

Biggest surprise, Buzz not starting and playing his Best Starters, you all know the three I mean, at least 32 min.each. And splitting the point guard time 50/50 of D.Wilson.

swoopem

Biggest suprise: That they started carding harder at the BC, blacklights, double forms,, just took too long to get a beer

Biggest disappointment: The New Mexico and @ Butler loses because I went out of my way to attend.
Bring back FFP!!!

Eldon

Biggest surprise: Seton Hall. They actually put up a respectable season.

Biggest disappointment: Buzz's inimmunity to growing pains

Earl Tatum

Senior Leadership  and take charge. Also JJJ

WayOfTheWarrior

Worst Biggest Surprise: Losing half of our "top 15" draft class for this year at the start of the season.
Best Biggest Surprise: Todd in the clutch

Worst Biggest Disappointment: Jamil
Best Biggest Disappointment (if possible?): several Big East teams are better competition than I originally expected

No Surprise: Derrick's shortcomings

PGsHeroes32

Biggest surprise: the fact our freshman can't get minutes on this team. Also Todd turning into a give me the ball I want this guy.

Disappointment: buzz and jamil share this. A blind man could tell you Derrick and Juan are bad yet they start. Makes buzz disappointing.
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

Standings:
Biggest Disappointment:  That we aren't one of the top two teams in the BE.
Biggest Surprise:  That two of the newbies are in the top 3 of the BE.

Players:
Biggest Disappointment:  That JJJ didn't become that stud freshman we hoped for.
Biggest Surprise: That NONE of the seniors took a leadership role.  That Burton has become so good so quickly and is still improving greatly.

Coaching:
Biggest Disappointment:  That Buzz is too loyal to his seniors and reluctant to give freshman some playing time.
Biggest Surprise:  That Buzz is too loyal to his seniors and reluctant to give freshman some playing time.

Fans:
A Disappointment:  Some of the chants from student section.
Biggest Surprise:  That MU game attendance has dropped so quickly.  Didn't think we had the "fair weather fans" other teams did.

Still hoping we win BE tourney and then can post an additional Biggest Surprise....

77ncaachamps

Biggest Surprises:
(Positive) Deonte. Averaging 6.3 points per 12 min/game. It's not a seamless transition but he's not shy about putting the ball through the hoop while attacking it.
(Negative) Buzz not cutting back on DWil's min. A "steady" hand but a lack of firepower to ever overcome the deficits MU faced in their games this year, I thought I'd see more Dawson from mid-year on.
Similarly with Jake and the games he didn't break 10 points (which was 70% of the games this season) and those he was scoreless (but registered 25+ minutes: 2 L's and 1 W - by 1 point). Thought Deonte and JJJ was going to see more time, if not Mayo.

Biggest Disappointments:
Jamil never emerging as team leader.
Seniors never putting this team on their back for more victories.
Never seeing the frosh gain significant time on the court.
Not seeing Dylan Flood log a BE min. (May change this weekend)
Malik getting into trouble.
Losing to Bucky.
