Over/Under on PG minutes against St. John's
« on: March 07, 2014, 06:23:24 PM »
What's everybody thinking going into this game??  Does Derrick get his usual 31?

I'm going to estimate 26 for Derrick, 14 for Dawson...which is more likely?  Derrick getting more than 26 or Dawson more than 14?

I think Buzz's track record this year suggests he will play Derrick his usual minutes in this game and the rest of the year...it would be nice if he at least shook it up a little bit and played Dawson big minutes tomorrow and if he plays well, turn the BE tourney reigns over to him. That is the only way I can envision us doing anything in the tournament. Sadly it just doesn't seem to fit Buzz's vision this year, which is why I think we will be making an early exit if we maintain the status quo. Our performance all year would prove that logic.

Buzz will play Derrick every minute he can, because Derrick is the man.

I think we'll get the 28-12 allocation in favor of Derrick - given that the 28+ allocation all year has resulted in 17-13 record and squarely off the bubble....I really wish Buzz would flip it and see how we'd come out against St. John's in advance of the Big EAst tourney to:

Dawson 30
Mayo 35
Burton 30
Jamil 30
Gardner 33

Subs - Derrick 10, Jake 20 minutes for Mayo/Burton/Jamil, Otule 12 for Jamil/Gardner

Most really good teams settle in on an 8 man rotation...and the above 8 guys have shown themselves to be the best 8.  Max their minutes, and stop with the ridiculous musical chairs offense/defense approach.  The whole defense first approach didn't work...and then trying the offense/defense approach has been okay, but it disrupts rhythm and flow for everybody...which is the reason you don't see any other team with the insane number of substitutions we are seeing at MU this year.
