I just ordered an Imac 27"

Decided to upgrade my 6 year old PC to an Imac. My avocation in retirement is restoring old photos in photoshop; and working on a childrens' book for my grand daughter using Illustrator and InDesign. I have been unhappy with windows 8 and 8.1. Never had a Mac before an was wondering if there are any Mac users out there to share your thoughts. They really look quite remarkable and the learning curve does not look that intimidating.

Congrats on the purchase. I have the smaller version, 21" I think. You will be amazed by how thin they are, with everything buit right in behind the monitor.

You probably already know this but you can make books right in iBooks, which can then be ordered and printed directly from Apple. We made a calendar from iPhoto this year for my mom for Christmas, it turned out fantastic and looked better than professional ones. I'm not huge on photo editing/restoration but Mrs. Bleuteaux uses it for that and loves it too.

I was new to Mac OS X, but I picked it up right away. It's very intuitive and easy to use. The thing boots up in literally 15 seconds, which is night and day from every PC I've owned (my laptop for work runs Windows 7 and I have time to hit the restroom and get coffee before I can log in each morning). I was also amazed that literally the only cord you need to plug in is the power cord. Internet runs through wifi, and the keyboard and touchpad/mouse are wireless. It took 5 minutes to set up.

The speakers are great, you don't need extra speakers. Honestly my only complaint is the keyboard is very condensed, but you get used to it after a while.

I'm a PC guy, but the 27" imac is a nice machine (and I only used the last generation).  If I wasn't so value conscious I'd even buy one for myself.  Have fun with your new machine, I'm sure it won't let you down.

Even friends who are clueless when it comes to technology have had great experiences with imacs... I think you'll find your comment about the learning curve to prove true.

Was a heavy Windows user for years - building my own PCs, able to fix any problems I ran into at the OS level. It took months to convince myself, but I bought my first Mac in early 2010.

I'll never go back to Windows again.

Wow! I love this computer. I have a question for you guys out there. What browser do you prefer. Safari seems ok, but my wife and I must constantly hit the command + to enlarge the screen that is readable for us. As far as I can tell there is no way to set the zoom in Safari. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Like Chrome, especially since it auto syncs to your gmail account on your phone, work computer...

I always use Chrome on my iMac
