Is there any chance that MU and Duke schedule a non-conference agreement that alternates every year? I would see that as a big boost to the team's exposure and also a chance to get a big NC win every season.

Thoughts?

TheBurrEffect

I'd believe this would already have been talked about between K and W. It'll happen in the season after next most likely.

bilsu

We better get better first.

I have some friends who went to Duke and know a lot about the program. They said it was a well known fact that Coach K does not willingly schedule games vs his ex-assisstants. Take it for what you will, but I don't think there's a good chance of it happening.

Yeah! I wouldn't want to play Harvard with an early season loss either.

I guess that makes sense. K has his ways of doing things. Just thought it was intriguing to think of it. I remember when MU played Duke in a tournament about 4 years ago which was kind of Gardner's coming out party despite the loss.

i dont think this would happen. duke's non-con is pretty much filled every year with the B10/ACC challenge, maui classic and champions bracket or coaches v cancer tourney. I dont recall them playing a lot of home/home with high level teams outside of those match ups.... not like they are scheduling Stanford and NWU to play his old coaches...

Most established coaches feel that way. Pitino never would have scheduled a game against Manhattan & Massielo.

Duke does not play away non-conference games, outside of neutral court tournaments.  Usually don't have to play on the road in the NCAAs either

hepennypacker5000

Duke doesn't schedule any non-conference games that will give them any real challenge outside of a tournament or two. They'll have one good team come play them at home, and the rest of their challenging non-conference games will be at neutral sites. This season their first true road game wasn't until Jan 12.

Unlikely in the short term.   I certainly would not want to add another monster to next year's OOC schedule.   Plus, MU isn't going to be anybody's 'buy' game and I doubt Duke gives us a home and home.

How do the early season tourney invites work?

That's where we've traditionally met up with Duke. Any way for coaches to influence this? Or is it all on the AD?

Rockmic87

How about MU v. VT or MU v. IU?

marquette20

More likely MU vs. ND starting a home and home similar to Wisconsin series. Brey and Wojo have a great relationship. It would be great to see this rivalarily again. ND and Wisconsin in opposite years would give one premier game each year.

I don't see Marquette reaching out to either of our most recent ex-coaches for much of anything, let alone scheduling games with them.

Let's try to compete in the new Big East before getting our tails kicked by Dewk

I could see one of Duke's pseudo home-and-homes.  MU at Duke, and then Duke vs. MU at the United Center the next year.

Getting ND on an opposite schedule from UW for home-and-homes every year would be perfect.

thekahoona

If I could convince my self that we will be good, not just serviceable and into the tournament, but really good, I'd like to see:

MU vs. Duke (friendly rivalry)
MU vs. VCU (payback)
MU vs. Tenn (didn't want you anyway)
MU vs. UVA (next time take our call, chump)

Maybe he can talk to his buddy at Northwestern for a home and home?

NM- just saw the other thread.

ChicosBailBonds

Typically student and pupil don't like to play each other so I don't see this happening any time soon, but I guess we will find out.
