1.  Tale of two halves.
2.   First half was sublime.   Ball movement, attacking the basket.
3.  Jamil, first half, bouncing back.  Jamil, second half, standing around.
4.   That 4 minutes of play without a whistle gassed MU and affected the rest of the game.   Buzz, call a TO!
5.  But why?   What about boot camp?
6.  Once again, too much Davante, not enough Otule.
7.   Second half possession with all 3 frosh may have been the ugliest thing of the game.   Pull up J early in the clock after 1 pass?    C'mon, man.
8.  3 pt attempts on 5 straight possessions are never a good idea when you are in control of the game.
9.   Press break 101, boys.  Have an outlet behind the ball, don't dribble into double teams.
10.  Todd, way to be the man.   Let this be a stepping stone.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Agreed with every thing you said.

One thing I think it was in the first half and honestly for maybe only a possession on offense and defense(maybe 2) before Buzz realized it was a disaster.

JJJ, Burton, Derrick, Jake and Juan.

never, ever, ever again.
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

#8 - This team falls in love with the 3 way too easily sometimes.  They don't even have to make one.  Those were mostly wide open looks too.
#4 - I was hoping one of the players would be "smart" enough to commit a dumb foul just to get a whistle after two minutes.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

The three that the refs give Gibbs that was actually a shot clock violation really changed the momentum.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Thankfully they gave it back to us later when they gave Jamil a basket after he stepped OB.

I was surprised that there was no review of the three - what would it have taken to get that?  Could Buzz have asked?  Could they have done it at the next TO or is that just for a 2/3 question?

Nice job, Tower.  I would add that I love Burton and what he is going to be almost as much as he loves to shoot/drive.  Needs to have a bit more patience. But we needed those buckets at that time.

We needed the baskets for sure, but it was as if we needed the aggression he brings going to the basket just as much.

The problem with Burton is that he is a freshman.   He made two really good plays getting inside and hitting close in shots.   Then, because he hit two shots in the paint,  he shoots a 18 footer.   Dumb.

Yeah you are right Tower we needed more of Otule's 4 TO's in about 15 minutes.

It seems that Buzz quit coaching in the second half.  We had them beat and he told the team to slow it down.  What the hey ?  And why did he leave players in who were gassed?  Thought Buzz was very bad.

Earl Tatum

Hope Luke Fischer and family don't change their minds after seeing that "not interested in playing" second half.
Good for recruiting showing player and family together on TV.

Tower, great observations again.

Why is it that Buzz teams slow it down under pressure and other teams - even mediocre ones like DePaul and Seton Hall attack pressure?  We had several chances to attack the pressure today for easy layup but ended up with fouls or travelling or turnover.  I don't get it.

+1

MU never turns the press into easy baskets.  Amazes me.  Amazed me more last year than this year, in fact.  ATTACK!

So, Derrick, 8pts, 4 assists, 1 turnover.
Two of his assists were the usual we're swinging the ball around and he was the last pass to a jump shooter.  One of his assists was what he should be doing.  His defender sagged off to 10 feet and Derrick drove right at him and kicked backwards to Jamil for a wide open in rhythm three.  The other was against the zone were he set up at the foul line, was unguarded, caught a pass and then kicked out a nice pass to Mayo for an open in rhythm three.  Those last two were cases where he created the score.  Those are rare for him and we need to see more of them.

You could see how he could score in high school.  4 of his points today came when he had the ball at the end of the clock.  Seton Hall, figuring he had no time to pass, put a guy right on him instead of sagging off and he went right to the drive with good results.  I'll bet in high school he was able to get to the rim constantly.

Bottom line.  He is going to play star starter minutes.  Whether we agree with that or not is not important.  He has GOT to be more aggressive attacking or shooting or SOMETHING.  His first thought has to be attack, not retreat.  If he is being sagged off he has to drive into the defense and force people to cover him and then make the pass (or shoot if they don't guard him).

6.  Once again, too much Davante, not enough Otule.

A couple things.  A lot of people give Gardner grief for carrying his offensive troubles over to the rest of his game.  Yesterday, he was a more active defender, trying to provide help defense and getting after the boards.  Much more than against Xavier when he was getting plenty opportunities on offense.

The other is, depending on your thinking, you can't play Derrick with Otule because that's two non-threats on offense, and you can't play Derrick with Gardner because that leaves the double team on Gardner all the time.  I thought we may have figured something out because before yesterday for a game and a half we were getting Gardner a lot of one-on-one opportunities.  Turns out that DePaul and Xavier just weren't sagging off Derrick as much as Creighton and Seton Hall were.

Every coach does something similar to boot camp.  MU just seems to brand it better.

buzz timeout before the half with 2-3 sec. left and we had a fast break going-probably better chance to score there than the play buzz draws up?
